Hi Guy's I'd just like to share my latest project with you;
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/ad151/SkidMerckx/IMG_3648.jpg
I have just got it back from powder coating (The colour is RAL7006).
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/ad151/SkidMerckx/IMG_3652.jpg
This was done by Windridge Coating ( www.windridge.co.uk/content.php/410) as they were able to fill in the dents in the frame before powder coating (something other powder coaters told me couldn’t be done?).

Anyhow, I got the frame back today and it is great (Dale at Windridge even re-tapped the BB after coating), so I just wanted to share it with you all............

That is one of the most gorgeous paint schemes I've ever seen. I may well have to steal it.
Standard period road bits going on it, or any colour coding?
Glad you like it but please don't :)
I looked so pretty after coming back from the shop that I was seriously thinking about period components but I cleaned it up as my training bike and stuck to that. Currently sporting a mishmash of Ultegra and Dura-Ace parts with Microshift levers. This colour scheme is definitely going on more of my bikes though.
The saddle in the pic is all kinds of wrong but it has been replaced with a suitable alternative.

does anyone knows what colour that is? -

I think it's purple with a hint of rosemary.

Shut up Ed. It's clearly puke yellow with a hint of chips.

Just dropped my Condor frame and fork off at Armourtex this midday.
Earlier, I bought some decals from Condor hoping Armourtex could transfer/apply them underneath the lacquer.
He said they wouldn't tolerate the 200degree temperatures and would just mess up.
How would I get my frame repainted with the decals underneath a layer of clearcoat - or is this not possible with powdercoating? How to Condor and other frame manufacturers apply their decals underneath the clearcoat, or do they not powercoat?
I'm confused. :S

• #662
They powdercoat, then apply decal, and then apply clearcoat.

They powdercoat, then apply decal, and then apply clearcoat.
Cheers, edscoble!
Apart from the powdercoating, the latter two jobs can be done at home I assume? -

Simply because, 1 - very few decals resist high temperatures (only foil, and thick ones), 2 - they can't be arsed, they're powder-coaters not bike painters.
You're better off going to someone like Mario Vaz, but it will be Enamel, which is also baked. It'll come up to the same price (exc. decals). -
• #665
From what I've read on the Mario Vaz thread, stove enamel/wet spray (same thing?) produces a finish that is prone to chipping, which is the main reason for getting my frame resprayed (other reason being the Condor 2009 decals are crap).
Powdercoating is a lot stronger and more durable, albeit not as impressive to look at.
I think I'll do the decals myself, or get someone else to, then apply clearcoat on top.

Fair play, I've been to Armortex, twice. I truly recommend their services but be very specific!!!
Make sure you don't leave the place without having your frame properly tagged with the RAL number.
Also, ask them which type of clear coat will work on the powder-coat. -

There was a slight misunderstanding that has led to me having to settle for half.
Initially I was aiming for this:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_l3lyn3hQ5e1qaey76o1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=0RYTHV9YYQ4W5Q3HQMG2&Expires=1278450696&Signature=p/IOhjP1VyvgXWEV1863mEvEco8%3D
So I sent Atex an email with the photo attached asking if it could be done, they replied "Yes, this can be done."
To my surprise, the man who served me said the closest thing they could do to a pearlescent white is white with a metallic lacquer/clearcoat applied over it, which really isn't much like the photo at all. It's more of a glittery finish, which could look good. My bro got his SE lager frame done there as well and it turned out better than he thought it would - Atex even offered to redo it at no extra cost if it wasn't like he wanted.
I didn't leave a RAL number - how hard can it be to get white wrong?
But I'll call up first thing tomorrow for safe measure. Thanks for advice.

Just went on their website, is "satin" also known as metallic?

I took 2 frames, they swapped the colors. Bugger, but both were mine.
My mate took 1 frame, they swapped the color, with another customer, bigger burger.
Just sayin'. -

Couldn't be arsed, worked fine for me.
My mate's frame wasn't re-done, he could live with it, it was a different shade of grey,
the other guy had his frame re-done.
I guess it's just too many frames there, like I said, they're not bike related painters.
Your frame will go to bake next to tables, chairs, parts and furniture of all kind. -
• #672
As long as it's white, I'm happy.
I just wanna ride. -
• #673
Just out of curiosity: what kind of crankset is on the white bike posted above?

Tokyo Fixed Gear built that bike up, you could ask them.
