Long skirt frame/parts/tips?

  • What frame/parts is most suitable when building a bike for someone who gonna be ridin' with long skirt? Preferable vintage looking.

While the classic looking womens frames have a lower toptube, witch I understand is for this purpose, the toptube is still quite high.

I tend to think foldies might be the best, as the tube is way lower (or looks like it is anyway)

(note, loose cloths tend to catch onto the "quick screws")

And well, chainguard.. is there any differences? maybe how much it cover, some might over both sides of the chain?

Mudguards, well as with all other bikes, either you have them or you dont.

Anything else I might wanna think of?

is what you need I think I've seen them for sale somewhere as an after market item, you need a mudguard too obviously.

Lots more stuff and idea on line.

EDIT: Sorry did not read what forum this was on, forgot all about that.

  • What Tommy said. Old school dutch bikes have them made from pieces of elastic/string.

  • Yup. Or you can get the full plastic ones that attach to the rear mudguard that will help protect against splashes and dirt.

  • Don't forget to make sure it have a chainguard too.

  • Cheapest and eaiset solution: use a clothes peg to peg the skirt up out of the way. If teh rider is worried about flashing too much leg or her bloomers, she can pull on a pair of leggings or some shorts underneath.

A peg means you can ride any type of frame at any speed you like!

Out of the question! The bike is for a lady!

    that's some insperation!

  • If I wear a long skirt I tie a knot in it so it doesn't get caught in the wheel... dangerous :)

needed to be alert as it kept on blowing open and my sporran had a mind of its own.

  • Just get them to wear a really short skirt; everyone's happy.

Unless it's yer mum or gran. In which case that's bad.

  • The Kona Africa Bike gets my vote, and I think Nhatt thinks well of it also.

I've seen one lady paint hers pink, and it looked very elegant. Cheap for its ability, and design brief.

  • Indeed. Available in your friendly LBS. [spam]

  • It's no longer steel, the new white one will have an alu frame.

  • Good point Ed. If I were to buy one, I'd go for a 2008-2009 model. Its a pity they changed it.
Steel would be so much easier to repair in Africa.

  • Usually I'd have though so, but then those robust alu frame aren't likely to fail anytime soon.

  • another nice crocheted skirt guard

    fixed? :)

    (gotta love that bike btw)

  • Na... Sturmey Archer hub, probably 3-speed.

fixed as in added the img tag....

  • Soma Buena Vista mixte FTW

    Cack wheels though

  • Thou mixte is quite worthless for riding with long skirt? Sure the "toptube" is a bit lower than on the traditional diamond frame, but it still starts almost in the middle of the seattube, just this I tried to highlight in my first post.

    great looking bike btw :)
