The BBC have forgotten to turn off their Audio feed. Just some guy on his phone arguing about being asked about the cricket when he was in Belgium instead.

Everyone wasnt racing at the end because of all the crashes?? I don't understand.

This is better than the telly. He is now talking about the guy who shot some people in Newcastle.
He is also reading his race report back to himself.

One of two reasons. Either the peleton decided as a whole to sit up because the crashing and just write the day off in an act of gentlemanly conduct or they've decided to lightly protest the conditions of the stage. The race directors can't control the weather but running 150+ riders into narrow roads like that is a pretty risky act, even in dry conditions.
Either way, the yellow jersey group sat up to let the big peleton catch and then the group with Schleck in it. After that, it's hardly a race anyway and no one will begrudge Chavanel who owned that stage from the off. Looks like all the points went out to non contenders for the green jersey and the stage is written off.

Can't they just race each other to the end? politits!

Hardly the point of a protest. As soon as there is a gap then technically there is a time difference and it all gets split up. In the tour there is a tradition of respect for the wearer of the yellow jersey and he basically called it. I for one like the dignity of that tradition. Besides, the only thing anyone would have done is to close the gap on Chavanel, who isn't a big GC contender. Utlimately it benefits the real contenders who have a couple of days to play tactics on each other while the sprinters do their thing before one of them ends up taking the lead.
Good ride Chavanel, good call Cancellara.

You apologist, TSK. :P
It's a bike race, get on with the racing. The route has been known since last October, many of today's peleton raced these same roads in the spring. HTFU peloton.

Hmm, if they thought today was dangerous, gawd only knows what they'll think when they hit the Arenberg at the end of tomorrow. Really, really hope it doesn't rain or we're in for a go slow methinks....

Why stop the sprinters from going for points?

C'mon, by any TdF standards the race hasn't even started before the end of Day 5. This is just a bit of aclimatisation and bargaining.
As for tomorrow, some people seem to think Cav is handy on the cobbles. However, the news suggests that Cav is on a new machine that is lighter and more rigid than before so I can't see that doing him any favours tomorrow.

Because most of them were out the back. If you write the day off, you do it for everyone, not just the GCers as well.

erm what's a GC or GCer?
Sorry, I really am dense -

Today the forecast was for dry all through (even though Spa is notorious for a microclimate) and all the riders were on max pressure tires. Tomorrow I'll be amazed if anyone is above 100psi. I'm not a racer though, anyone with experience care to suggest a good racing pressure for cobbles?

Sorry, I really am denseGeneral Classification. The person at the front of the GC is the person in the yellow jersey and has the shortest overall time. GCer's are those contending to win the whole tour.
KOM, which is coming up shortly, is King Of the Mountains.
