V brake boss problem

Posted on
  • I got "Dmr v-brake bosses" and shimano deore m530 v brakes..when I try to mount the brakes on to the bosses I run in to a problem...

Normally the little pins on the brakes have to enter the hole's in the bosses..now at a certain point the brake stops, so the pin can't enter the hole..I got some pictures to enlighten it..

the arrows indicate where the brakes stop on the boss

    the result

how can I solve this? other v brakes? other bosses?

  • The brake side of the boss is standard (the threads on the other side come in two different pitches) so new bosses won't help - and all Shimano stuff is standard too . . . . so . . . . hmmmm ???

  • Thought !!!!! Ignore my "The brake side of the boss is standard" lie !!!

I just had a look through a pile of brake bosses I have . . . . and one thing is obvious, there are long ones and shorter ones, you might need a shorter one . . . maybe ??

  • and how do you see when they are shorter, because not many shops list this in their advert...stupid

  • and how do you see when they are shorter, because not many shops list this in their advert...stupid

Actually now I think about it, they won't help as the shorter ones have the same height 'shoulder'.

    : (

  • I am sure i had a similar issue, but i am damned if i can remember how we sorted it.

will have a look at the bits in the shop later this week.

  • Djee, are you after this for your polo bike.

Use the Identiti bolt on bosses?
They run the standard 31.8 ID so will fit any fork that the DMRs do and I run shimano (XTR) brakes on them with no issues.
