  • Busted my ankle last night and am now pathetically housebound.

Anyone got a pair of crutches kicking around that I could borrow for a couple of weeks until I'm healed up ?

Obviously, delivery to Stoke Newington would be a massive bonus due to the nature of the injury, but I could arrange for my girlfriend to collect if distance isn't too far.

  • Aren't the NHS supposed to lend you some? Physio department? Local GP?

  • I'm hopeful, heading to a drop in centre this afternoon to have it looked at and try and get an x-ray. Rumour has it they'll only dish out the crutches if it's broken.

  • Without wishing to come across all harsh and HTFU, if all you've done is twisted/sprained it then I think current medical advice is to not bother with crutches and get back to walking normally on it ASAP. I see you're off to the docs later, so hopefully they'll sort you out one way or t'other...

    Get well soon!

  • Yeah Andy, I think I have a couple old pairs if you decide you want them... I'll have a route around and let you know.

  • Cheers Jono

We'll see what the doc says, but if you have some that would be ace.

  • Andy if you need I can collect and delivery them to you

  • Wow, thanks rik, top man.

    Will let you know.

  • Polo related?
I've still not got my 2 pairs back from lending them out otherwise I'd bring them over this evening. Heal up.

  • Haha, I knew you'd have had some at some time.

Football related. Seemed like nothing at the time and I rode home then put an ice pack on it, woke up at 3 this morning and it's totally seized up.

Will be off the bike for a week or so to let it heal.

  • You could use a polo mallet upside down - kinda pirate style...

  • go on freecycle - i put a wanted ad up for crutches and literally got offered 8 pairs in two days. zing.

This is what I did when I fooked up my foot after East. Actually walked to Royal London that way. Doctor said it probably wasn't busted, and sent me on my way. But also said don't use a crutch. It'll just prolong the whole experience. Learn to walk on it in such a way as doesn't cause pain and enjoy walking very slowly.

That being said, get it checked by a doctor so at least you know. Just go to A&E.

  • Hi I have a pair, I can meet You or Your GF at London Bridge or Waterloo tomorrow morning around 8AM. Let me know if You want them.

  • Having broken my ankle back in feb, I wouldn't worry.

If it was broken you would have already been to hospital. :-)

  • Just back from A&E, good news is there's no break, just ligament damage.

Bad news is no polo for a few weeks.

Crutches would be good for the weekend then I'm supposed to start walking on it whenever possible after that.

  • Where are you located? I have a set of fairly new ones in SW11 I can deliver locally?

  • Andy, stay the weekend in, Football, tennis, F1?, some movies, fun with the other half, job done

  • Cheers Gav, but I'm up in N16, bit of a trek for you I think.

    Ha!

    Sounds like a plan.

  • Just add beer...

  • I could drop them to Dalston if You want.

  • N16 is a bit too far yes, good luck though. I broke mine and tore all the ligaments 3 years ago and it took a long time for it to come good - try standing on one leg on a pillow when it's better, that helped my stability a lot.

  • Cheers for the tip Gav.

macek, I'll let you know, Jono's gonna have a look later, if he's got none then I'll be in touch.

  • Hah I did exactly the same thing playing football. Doctors predicted 8 weeks until fully fit. Been three weeks now and did my first ride yesterday, 13 miles and seemed good for it. Don't do anything too soon, though - I was on crutches for 2 weeks - although do keep it moving cos I didn't do it early enough and it was really stiff for longer than it should have been...
If you don't get any crutches I've got a pair from this injury!
