Probably a silly question, but I'm pretty sure that Konas were 1 1/8" by 1993 or so. If the Project 2s/stem are silver or gold, I'd expect them to be 1 1/8".
Standard travel for most forks around that time (i.e. to fit non-suspension correct geometry) was 63mm (2.5"). Realistically you're going to want to try and avoid any of the "high end" forks from around that time, as I'd imagine that anything involving air and oil is probably past being fixed by now. Stick to Judys/Manitous/etc.
