  • 4) that is unrealistic - desk space in London is usually around £200 inc bills

    5)

    • You will hate and love London in equal measure
    • Hampstead Heath is the best thing in London
    • Don't take the tube in summer, its expensive and hot
    • North London is better than South London. FACT

Do not even consider moving to Hackney if you value yourself and your possesions.

There are some very nice parts of SE1 and SE16 though around Bermondsey and Surrey Quays. Avoid Deptford and New Cross too

  • Thanks everyone for the input, it's great to have as many opinions as possible as to where is awesome and where is stabby. It's hard to get a feel for places when you haven't been there longer than five minutes.

On no account take advice from toryboy here.

Deptford and New Cross are fine, and you're more likely to find there the desk/studio space you're after for that kind of money.

On no account move to Finchley. Hackney on the other hand is cool and hip, and it's not a given that you're more likely to lose your possessions there more than any other part of London. Except, perhaps, Finchley.

BTW Hotdesking means NOT having a desk, but being flexible and negotiating with other workers in an organisation about where you work, when, and workers not assuming implied or overt 'rights' over a certain workspace. A concept developed and implemented in some large organisations by workspace architects, such as DEGW, in the 90s onwards.

  • I love Deptford. It was the place where, at 16, I first experienced an NF Skinhead trying to grope me as he thought that (from behind) my long hair and stunning facial features meant that I was a girl.

I imagine Oliver gets this all the time.

Needless to say I made my excuses and left, and the NF pub has now turned into a Cantonese Noodle Bar. Ah, the 80s.

  • I'm with Skully on this one. I'm very fond of Hackney.

  • Oh and ask Skoota about Brixton desk space rent.

  • yeah, actually New Cross is alright, my girlfriends family live in Honour Oak and East Dulwich, both are nice. Herne Hill is good too..

Would still rather live in NW though - sorry, born and bred init.

  • Don't come to Herne Hill. It's rubbish.

Tory Boy LOL. Now come on you know that isn't true and all my suggestions are based on my valid experiences of living all over London for the last 38 years

And I only live in East Finchley cos I can't afford Muswell Hill, Highgate or Hampstead :)

  • I live in highgate for £80 a week two years ago.

    You're doing it wrong
