Yes, it would be a good idea to attempt a few test rides. I spotted your Thursday evenings' out West, which I'm sure would make for a solid experiment, but the commute from work is that bit too tricky.
The next forum rides I'm up for include TNRC on the 6th, and then a run out to Kent on Sunday the 11th, I'll mebe see you at one of them? I've also got my first couple of Sportives coming up; though I suspect that your trip will be booked up by the time they're under my belt.
An example of what I find slightly disconcerting is Dov's talk of "half k changes at the front". It's this sort of thing that I'm sure I'd cock up.
