What's the seat tube measurement?
Pretty frame -
• #3
Pretty sure that's what the 55cm measurement is, Digger... Nice...
-
• #4
I think you're right, the down tube would be longer...
-
• #5
I could ride that...

Both my Mercian and Holdsworth have had those same proportions, short seat tube/long top tube... Why dat? Coincidence? Or were old path frames just built like that?

The fetish for short wheel base has developed over the years, but these frames were built to fit, I have a long torso and short legs, works for me, anyone else want to pontificate?
Ducks for cover... -

Wouldn't really call this a path frame though...

Seat tube 55cm centre to centre and top tube 58cm long, yes it is a long frame!
Built like this to give a long low TT position. I have time trialed this frame! -

This is a real, classic, a 1949 AS Gillott track/time-trial frame, number 491394
It has beautiful spear point lugwork and a very fine rear triangle, rear facing fork ends and slender, beautifully curved front forks. There are no braze-ons at all. Nothing is seized and the threads are good.
It has been re-sprayed in Subaru Impreza blue. The paintwork is in very good condition except for a couple of scrubs on the rear forks where I fitted Raceblades for the winter.
Please note the front axle width is 95mm and the rear 110mm, normal for that era. You will have to remove some spacers from modern hubs to get them to fit.
The frame was built for 27in wheels
