Only 3 major hills:
Porthnails road

did u guys use a GPS device or u just knew the route?
is it possible on single speed bikes :P -

Well, we recced (rode) the route a few times, and at least one of us had a GPS.
It's totally possible on SS bikes just don't use too big a gearing, something around 60-70 GI is fine, although you'll probably be walking up the big hills anyway. There are a few tricky bits but its mainly straight.
try and take some sort of map with you, whether it be print outs or something on an iphone or whatever - you'll appreciate it when you sat in a quiet country lane in Sussex wondering where the fuck you are. -

depends how fast you are! If you don't have any mechanicals and ride at an ok pace it should take you 4-6 hours. We stopped at the top of Turners Hill (about 30 miles in) nice pub, will refill your water bottles for free, nice food. Start as early as you can, take plenty of water and sunscreen and some snacks (fig rolls and flapjacks are good). If you're getting the train back, buy a groupsave ticket it will be cheaper. Your gearing should be fine, but expect to walk up some of the hills unless you are really strong climbers.

i have practiced on hampstead and sydenham hill regularly plus i ride 13 miles a day for work regularly . . hampstead was nothing, sydenham killed me still i finished it without getting off the bike. About water, we all have backpacks and i m planning top carry 1 D Lock (Abus) so i was thinking of getting water sumwher on the route drinking it n throwing the bottle away, like tesco or sumthing. Train tickets sorted online got the groupsave :D
Oh and thanks for the info really appriciate it -

...ahhhh man, i left brighton 2 days ago ,would have loved to do it. I did the london to brighton BHF race a while ago, was great fun. It took around 6 hours but we did stop for a beer and bacon role, prob cycled for around 4.5 hours.
Hope the ride went well...
3rd of july, 3 Indians (people not bikes), London to Brighton (ofcourse), 3 single speed bikes, no GPS and 1 B(e)acon
Any/everyone is welcome to join us as we have zero experience and it will be a good summer day (hopefully).
