I have a 54cm geared road bike.
But I set it up with a 8 speed cassette but the existing downtube shifters. Index mode has just 6 speeds, so I rely on friction mode. Which is pretty damn tricky to dial in gears.
I am also in the process of faffing with handle bars as the ones which were on it had too much drop for me. But based on your surly, would be about perfect for you.
Rear brake surface is also kind of worn so braking is weak.
Sounds like a bike from hell doesnt it?
