Carbon forks: Reynolds Ouzo Pro vs Alpha GS20

Posted on
  • Hi,

I bought one of them Principia road frames off CRC and even though it didn't say so, it came with a Reynolds Ouzo Pro carbon steerer fork. Not that I am in any way unhappy with the outcome, I had bought an Alpha GS20 fork off eBay some time ago to go with the frame which makes one happy camper with two forks.

Now I have to decide which one to use. Have any of you guys any experience with either of the forks? I believe they are both about the same weight, but, for some reason, I think Reynolds would be the better brand. Not sure, mind.

  • Any idea of what the trail is on these forks, or what the frame's designed for? I have an almost unused 2005 (or so?) frame, with the correct principia branded fork by mizuno- could look a the trail for you later poss.... that's what I would care about above all else- trail.

Are these taper steerers, both or is this an earlier non taper steerer?? questions questions, we got plenty of those......

  • Same weight, same rake, same axle to crown, same great reputation. Not much to separate them to be honest. I'd go for the Reynolds, partly on looks TBH.

I believe the rake is 43mm.

And I have the same Principia track frame with the Mizuno fork still unbuilt, hidden away waiting for my finances to pick up.

Yeah, they both are pretty high-end, I think.

And yeah: Reynolds does look better what with the naked carbon fiber weave showing and all.

  • Does it make a difference if it's straight or not? I know nothing bout carbon forks, but if they were steel the curved ones would perhaps be slightly more comfortable on longer rides since they'll absorb some vibrations?

  • With carbon I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter how the 2 points (crown to dropouts) are connected- by means of a curvy bit, or a straight bit of plastic, ahem, carbon composite.

  • i have a reynolds fork, the comp with an alloy steerer.
my friend who works in the trade and knows about these things said "nice frame, comes with a decent fork too, you wont need to change them"

they certainly seem to track better than the cheaper deda's on my condor

no experience of the alpha forks.

Pfft, sounds like your Condor needs a 40mm BMX stem and some risers then.
