Hi,
I am new to the forum, I have been a lurker for a while now. I just finished a course at Kingston University, but I am originally from North London.
A month or so ago I decided to buy a bike to get to Uni and back. Late night ebay bargain shopping led to the (regrettable - lack of research on my part) purchase of a Create bike. Please feel free to mock. I have now seen the error of my ways and I am looking to start again! I have been refreshing the classified page for a week looking for something which will suit my budget, and as soon as I am able to post a Wanted ad I will do so.
In the mean time, in case anyone may be reading this, I am looking for a decent budget frame for around £50-£60. A lot of the information on this site is all new to me, so knowing exactly what to buy is proving difficult. Essentially I am after something with good geometry and lugs, but will probably consider anything as a replacement for the Create!
I would post a photograph of my bike, but I am sure you have seen one before, and feel it would only jeopardise any future help I may receive in the future on the forum!
Andrew

This has been my favourite post of the day. He needed a bike to get to Uni and back, so he bought a Unipack. :)
Welcome, Andrew. Good first post.

Thank you for the welcome.
An update: took the bike to Evans earlier for them to show me how bent the frame is. The bike is still under warranty, but I'm struggling to see the point in getting a replacement unless it is to sell it to an unsuspecting victim on eBay. I think my morals may be too high to do that though.
Been offered a cheap Falcon 531 frame for the time being. It will have to do until I save up a bit of money I guess.
I wish I had found this forum prior to buying the 'Uni and back'. I feel a bit sick to the stomach seeing what I could have bought for the same money.

Hello new to this forum. I Have a sturmey archer 3 speed bike that I use to commute to work. It stays in second gear for the whole time. So I am in the process of buying my first fixed wheel bike.

Well thanks a lot for saving me from buying one.
I’m from North London, and have not yet purchased myself my fixie, though I was very close to getting a create until I read Andrews post. I've been looking for a while, just I’m not up to scratch on the dimensions of what would suit my height, 5'11/ 6ft. So if anyone could give me a heads up on a complete setup that just needs some TLC and some personal upgrades id much appreciate it.
Thanks a lot, Smudge

Been lurking for a while, looking for info for my first fixie, so here it is.... some tyres, bar-plugs and a spangly new saddle and I reckon we're there... thanks for the input!
Not exactly London based (rural Northants) but I work near Cambridge so will be using this to scoot round the city

Hi all,
New here as well... just got my first fixed gear bike... a Kona Paddy Wagon 2010. I mostly commute on it from Camden Town to Parsons Green. Say hi if you see me!

hi, new to the site. Used to be a trials biker (does anyone want a mint Identiti Dr.Jekyll frame!?) and generally scorned road bikes. Moved to London for uni, stopped trials and hadn't been on a bike for three years. Then I acquired a 1980s raleigh racer a few months ago and have discovered the joys of bikes with thin tires. I use it to commute from Victoria Park to Chelsea. I never need to change out of the highest gear so am going to convert to a single speed as my first project.

Getting serious about finally getting a bike again, a fixed gear one at that.. I probably fit into one of the typical moulds for new members, trying to pick up enough information to cobble together or buy a cheap first beater.
I think I visited this forum in 2008 when I first moved to the UK (Brighton). Anyway, I bought some anonymous junker for £30 which was stolen within a week, so I ended up just being content with walking around Brighton..
Fast forward to now, my girlfriend got her first bike and I'm really itching to get one myself, as I've not seriously ridden in 3 to 4 years. Oh, and I live in London now.

sorry about the rather limp welcome Hinterland, but most people are far too busy in the 'Mummy, he's picking on me' thread to say hello. So I will: hello

Unlurking today - second post. Building a single speed at the minute - based on a Raliegh Sprint. Some of the threads hereabouts make me giggle.

Greetings guys!
Welcome to the forum. 3rd largest bike forum on the web but certainly the coolest.
Have fun, play nice (sometimes), and if you can, dont just buy and sell, come to drinks, ride some rides, give back, meet some people. -

Hey all.
New here, but have been a lurker for a while.
Have picked up a Peugeot Premiere f+f as a single speed conversion project.
Daily was a Specialized Sirrus Sport for the commute to work. I say was as I was involved in an accident on the London to Brighton and mangled the front wheel and snaped a bar end. Also 18 stitches!!
Looking for a road bike now, and waiting for the 2011 to be released.Have picked up a load of advice on my SS project so will get on to that once I'm healed

Hi, New to the forum a few weeks ago. Laid up in plaster at the moment so looking forward to getting back on the bike in a couple of months!
Hi, I am based in Glasgow. Am a keen cyclist but really prefer geared bikes and race in sportives and club races. Have an old Reynolds 531 that I put together as a 7 speed that I am looking to sell. Will post more details in the For Sale page when I have permission.
Here it is anyway. Drop me a line if you are interested. Can have couriered to London.
Seat post now the right way round - Doh!
Cheers
