i was going to suggest a gay forum, a swingers forum, a fat persons forum, a skinny persons forum etc
i can see that there may be some benefit but am also concerned as to the potential problems caused by self ghettoisation
i am frequently nervous before rides, will i be too slow, will others wait etc, i dont see these are particularly female concerns (@ Tash)
we all have to go out try a few rides, find the ones at our pace and then if you wish push yourself harder until you can do something more strenuous
i can see both merits and potential pitfalls
personally i think the polo subforum is one of the strongest areas of lfgss

I see a ladies sub forum, as an organisational thing, rather than a political/gender thing - I think lot's of people are maybe reading too much into this idea.
This is what I was aiming for with my post, I think it should just be an extra folder in the virtual filing system, rather than a 'no boys allowed' club.

I think that if there is a demand for women-only rides then there is no reason not to meet that demand; either as an end in itself or as a way of getting women to join in mixed forum rides later.
The great majority of people coming to Bikeworks recently for Cycle Training have been women. The reasons for that are unclear. But I do suspect that many of them, if they want to start riding for pleasure rather than just commuting, would be encouraged to do so if there were women-only rides they could join as a starter.
Ultimately I think if Velocio allows it then Nhatt and anyone else who wants to organise it should just go ahead and do it and see what happens. -

Cycling plus have a women's section that doesn't exclude men, but gathers together the women-specific issues. I can imagine that a question like this would have quickly deteriorated into something unpleasant in any of the main forums here, but in a women's specific section might be handled better.

you are right cClaire, I forgot about him, so old he is :)

I think a good solution would be slower longer rides. People already post threads saying 'because long rides are fun' can we just post 'because day long, long rides are fun!'
I just want to get better at long rides without being at the very back all the time.
I also like the crude language on the forum its funny.

My tuppence worth, Im not really a fan of the sub forums they create a them and us scenario, or a no polo, no talk mentality
No second X chromosome. No Talk. -

what about a gay subforum? there is more homophobia than misogyny on here.
This is, unfortunately, very true. Whether it's meant to be light hearted or not, it's still there. -

If the women want a sub-forum maybe more should be putting their opinion forward on this thread
I thought we had.

i was going to suggest a ...fat persons forum...
James
No need, I spend much of my time talking to myself about the need to diet and other fat person specific issues without the need for a forum within which to do so.
A skinny person forum, on the other hand, would be hugeluy oversubscribed and would be little different from the main forum other than it wiould exclude me, which is why there will probably be sudden and overwhelming demand for sucha forum.

I personally would say that it would be more viable to argue that Hardcourt Bike Polo was successful in creating a community feel, this is directly related to the amount of time that polo players spend in each others presence in real life rather than the polo sub-forum being a success.
Forum24 came after the community was already in place and David saw fit to move the sheer amount of polo related threads into one place to help out an already blooming collective of forum users. -

You are way too young, younger even than MrsO who celebrates her 24th wedding anniversary today.

Erm, Clive, shouldn't you be celebrating also? :)

Vegan only forum? It's not just a dietary concern but it's certainly important for vegans to ensure that they're getting the correct nourishment from their food. B12 Deficiancy being a prime example. -
• #124
wools - I was being a little ironic. I am celebrating; MrsO is wondering where her life has gone ;o)
