If you want to make it go fast, on the other hand, 53/16 would be nearer the mark

i figured it was general agreement that for single speed / fixed gear the more teeth (both front and rear) - the better, life-time-wise. i also understand 42/13 would make the bike go quite fast :) but that was not my point
I did'nt even consider what would be the fastest gear, or anything else technical. I was just thinking that for the same cost and gearing, the bike could have a big(ish) chainring. Which would make it look more business-like. [/shallow cnut]
