Gold membership with BC?
worth it for the personal accident cover. Bikes not covered, you'd need something separate but BC do have a route to cheap bike insurance once you have membership.
I have checked and it's just under 10% of the bike's value to insure it for racing and leisure.
£195 for a 2 grand bike -

We have agreed to bring in an accreditation system for track league next season, where new riders will have to attend a minimum number of Monday sessions and be assessed before signing up to TL. This brings us into line with most other velodromes.
This will be a good move.
Also I have to say I'm really not big fan of the new format this year. -

Well I have the BC Silver membership, I take it that does not cover crashes?
Are you talking about a specific insurance policy to cover this. Can you recommend one for me please? -
• #555
Gold membership with BC? Mind you, I dont reckon you'd get any no-claims bonus the way you're going :)
LOL. No. I am quite upset about my bike. You know when you crash and come round you can tell pretty much instantly whether you have done any serious damage to yourself. Then after a few minutes assessing the situation your thoughts turn to your bike and you wonder what state it is in. Poor thing, it really has taken a beating. :(

Found this Mike, Says Racing insurance on the right hand side of the web page but not sure what it covers...

Its always the neck isn't it? My neck is killing me this morning. I forgot you went down as well y-s. I guess you must have been right behind me?
I can't really comment about what happened all I know is that the 2 riders in front of me went down and I couldn't get out of the way fast enough.
But there were some hairy moves taking place on Wednesday I did notice that and something does ned to be done because I do not want to make a habit of crashing and I don't want to have to fork out £500+ on a frame every season
I probably was in front of you.
a rollapaluza guy went down in front of me, and I had nowhere to go but ride into him and over the bars. What I don't get is it was almost a straight single line coming out of the turn not too fast, and 4 laps to the last sprint, not where you'd expect a crash to happen. it probably was a touch of wheel, caused most likely by inattention. -

Which one? racing or training? -

Which one? racing or training?
racing. the program is good, just not keen on A&B mix thing.
-
• #560
Didn't As and Bs always used to mix in the final long race though?
-
• #561
Yes. And in the warm up.
-
• #562
hmm the 2 crashes I have been involved in have been the warm up and the final race.
A coincidence? -
• #563
Have to say I am not a fan of mixing the A&B, after all that's why they are split! but it is done for timing reasons with a lot of the races running out of daylight.
Obviously this has worked with smaller numbers + there is usually a definite split after a few laps, but maybe not so good now

One of the reasons I moved up to the A cats was to avoid some of the sketchy riding in the B cats. I'm never going to win a race with the As but it's faster and safer racing.
That said, the dodgiest manoeuvere I saw on Wednesday night was in the madison, which was meant to be a race for experienced riders.

Me too. I'll never win again :(
Maybe also there needs to be more of a rule about being lapped by the main bunch (not the main bunch being lapped by a breakaway) and not joining back in.

Jim won't like that.

You mean there isn't already?
-
• #568
If there is, it isn't enforced.
-
• #569
Yeah, but it never happens. Recently theyve said drop out in the last 5(?) laps if youve been lapped, but never anything about no joining back in the 'peleton'
-

accreditation definitely sounds like a good idea. we all make mistakes but it's a fact that those with less experience will make more of them. however, have to bear in mind the more rules and regs we push to bring in, the more work it'll be for someone.

This is my personal view on the subject:
I think if a rider is dropped and lapped by the field they should be taken out of the race. Period.
If they have a mechanical issue then they should be allowed to rejoin, but no other reason. There are a number of riders who always turn out for races but NEVER training sessions, these riders are known to drop off the back of most races very quickly as they are simply not fit or strong enough, how is that helping? because they do the same thing every year and never improve.

Yeah my favourite rider number 77 was joining back in in the final race last week after being lapped. He did it three times before giving up.
-
• #573
Guys I suggest you raise this with Jason before next wednesday and maybe we can have a word with the Comms and get this sorted out. It must play havoc with the scoring if someone who's dropped out 5 times is there at the end contesting a sprint!
-
• #574
Exactly. And also, if the front group has say 10 riders in it, and going fast, you do a turn on the front (sometimes!) and expect to fall back in behind the last rider, but suddenly the group has expanded to 25 after lapping a few smaller groups, it throws the whole rhythm. This is also not good. The group splits again, people try and race around to join the front, etc etc.
ANyways, its all shit-chatting on here. Dont know what the solution is.
BTW I think the league is ace, and pretty well organised considering. ANd I personally like the new format of different races every week.

As an inexperienced track rider and racer if I was making any stupid mistakes I would hope someone would tell me. Theres a lot going on on the track and its way easier to rectify what your doing wrong when you know about it!
Sorry to hear about all the crashes, hope everyones healing well.
Hopefully be back on the track next week, was wanting to go this week but rather annoyingly snapped my seat bolt.
