I know that stuff is expensive and invariably shagged. It may take some time, i saw some rusty CL cranks with some worn rings go for 60 quid on ebay last week .

Trying to build a bike similar to what my grandad rode in the 30's
Rarer than rocking horseshit ,must have been hi tech then http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/chaterlea.html -

Recycles in Surbiton has lots of rusty old crap - could be some hidden gems?
2 wooden tub wheels in the window, rear is a flip-flop.
A 1930s 'track bike' restored, but it's not for sale.
One of the guys in there seems quite possesive, and if you ask him then none of the nice stuff is actually for sale.. ?! He seems to restore it and keep it! -

Sounds sweet !Thanks ,i'll give them a try next time i'm out that way. I'll bring some weapons and some crack to help him close the deal.

I spotted this 30s? chater lea bike on ebay which might be of interest. Looks untouched with rare CL hubs.

That's one hell of a machine. I was the second highest bidder, but for some stupid reason I put in £237 even though I would have paid £250!!
Seeing it go up in that last second was the most horrible moment of my ebay life.
If anyone has any, or knows where I could get any chater lea parts/frames/damn near anything then I'll be forever in your debt.

Ted,
What Chater parts are you looking for exactly?
-
• #13
Pretty much anything, and the condition doesn't matter as long as I can use it. I mean, a chainset would be great, but most of the chater lea stuff I've been finding on ebay is just odd bits - A chain ring sans cranks, or a trashed headset. That seems to be sort of thing that comes up. A pair of track hubs would pretty much be a god-send! I'd be interested in any chater bits and bobs that anyone might have, and more than interested in a track frame!

Hi. I am a new member to this site (but am on the CTC site as part of the admin team)
I have been asked by a lady to help her dispose of her late fathers cycle collection.
Amongst the parts are some used & some unused (& still in their original wrappers) Chater Lea parts.
As soon as I can post threads on here I will put an ad in the for sale section with details.
Regards,
Ken. -

Hi I'm a new member on the site. I've got a some Chater Lea pedals and Williams C1200 crank arms (with the chain ring bolts, some cotter pins & 2 unused GB axles) if your interested?
I'm building an old 1930's Chater lea track bike , i've so far got an old quill stem and a frame just looking for everything else . I know they made quite a lot of other parts too at that time, was going to try and source as much age related "Chater Lea" parts as possible . If anyone knows a source or willing to part with some stuff that may be of interest, would be appreciated. I want to use 27' rims and drop bars and no brake.
Regards RV
