Do you have the top tube cc measurement by any chance?
-
• #3
60cm. Though thats a useless measurement withoit knowing the fork offset, which is 55mm, and the head angle, which i dont know. Only you will know your planned stem & bar lengths, so i hope you can calculate probable handling xharacteristics from this info.

Does it have the annoying French threading and weird stem/seatpost sizes?
-
• #5
Not sure what you mean, but im into french bikes ao i suppose its not annoying for me.
Bb. Is standard 24tpi shell, so its not one of those annoying italian ones! Stem is 22.2, a standard 1" steerer in other words. Headset threading is also standard. Seatpin will be 27.2, 26.8, or less likely, 25.4, but i dont have verniers any more with which to measure. Ive left the pin in to help youbasically, it was built for uk market, hence the 27" wheels it had, so everything is same as a british touring bike. This model was sold as a rival to dawes and claud butler.
Jolly nice they are to ride, too! -

are you sure carbolite was an equivalent of 531?
i always thought it was fairly low-end, and the fact that the frame doesn't have a mech hanger supports this assumption.
i might be wrong though, and it's a fair enough price for a frame in that condition anyway -
• #7
Carbolite 103 isn't equivalent to 531 - its nearest equivalent is Raleighs' '18-23'...if you were being cruel you'd call it 'gas pipe'.
-
• #8
Hardly! If it really is rhe equivalent of the raleih then its same as reynolds 501, not gaspipe! Try a chinese mtb if you want to compare with gaspipe! This frame is not heavy!
The lack of a hanger is of course an aid to s-s conversion. I had a hub gear and brake conversion on one, which made a great citybike. -
• #9
It's the same, maybe a bit heavier than Reynolds 501. It's not as bad as some people say, but it's certainly not equivalent to 531 and the OP should be less sneaky in future. There are nerds on here.

Im just working out how to link to the original catalogue for these models, which is on flickr but not linkable. Darn! Methinks they were even sneakier about weights rhan than now. They said it weighed 24 pounds, yet look at that crankset, and it had steel rims, mudguards and carrier! I think trek, colnago et al could learn some lessons on catalogue weights from these guys!

1+ on 103 not being heavy, it's definitely noticably lighter than a plain gauge 531 frame.

.I didn't say it was heavy, i said it aint 531 equivalent.
The first racer I had was a Pugeot equipe with 12sp simplex gears and carbolite 103 tubing. It was £109.99 from Halfrauds and I remember the price cos I did a paper round for a year to buy the thing. It was an ace bike but my mate got a raleigh record sprint fro his birthday and that was £220 (501 tubing). The cheapest 531 bike was a Viscount and was about £270 which this posh kid I knew had - we were completely in awe of it and the difference between that bike and mine was night and day.
If you know how Peugeot were able to build a bike for less than half the cost of the Viscount then you'd probably be rich enough not to need to sell that frame :) - which is still a nice frame btw..

Still no response from dibsers so the item is now open to the first person to pm me their contact number
58cm c-c, 60cm c-t, 125mm OLN. Lovely frame, suitable for build as tourer, road or SS/Fixed. Nicely lugged, and built with Carbolite (basically a 531 equivalent)
Original BB/Cranks and headset still in there, seatpost included (for sizing purposes, as it's a crap steel one) which moves fine.
Paint is pretty good, and a coat of clear laquer will bring it up lovely if you don't want to repaint. It's all straight and ding-free.
£60
Will be in London from 7th to 14th June. Currently in York, but can deliver London or A1/M1 corridor.
