They are talking about bombing it.
Moabs or daisy cutters detonated underwater, blow up then implode as there isn't air to sustain the fire. Immense heat causes the crack to reseal itself.
Or potentially rip open a bigger one.And yes the soviets did nuke one.

ah great ... who'll pay the clear up cost for the nuclear contamination
NOT BP I hope -

Did anyone else think that the way the American Congress ripped the BP CEO Tony Hayward a new arsehole was out of order?
Someone should tell them that they are shit at sarcasm as well as Irony.......

It was moronic, seemed so childish it was unreal. But it could all just be for show.
Ive said this before, sucessful legal actions against B.P can help set precedents for what can be done about all the oil spills in the niger delta or south america.

Ripping into Hayward gives the appearance of 'doing something about it' and is much easier than proper legislation and regulation. Everybody loves seeing some rich guy getting yelled at.
-

What im worried about, is that BP know this.
Its seems remarkable how much BP are making Hayward the sole face of this whole fiasco. Him doing every press piece, TV ads, in court basically by himself.
It almost seems the company are using him, so americaland can give him a good telling off and let it be over & done with.

What was also telling is when the other oil companies are asked about this you just watch them shuffling their feet, and looking at their shoes..... muttering.... 'their but for the Grace of God etc.'.
BP will suffer disproportionally for what happened on their watch....
However that, as they say, is life.

No. Not even in the slightest. The damage will last a generation, probably longer and severely hurt one of the most interesting and poorest parts of the USA.
US Oil Company, North Sea, similar situation. Can you honestly say that the UK response would be more high brow?
Fuck off. What an idiotic question.

Did anyone else notice there is already an existing thread about the BP oil spill?
-
• #136
as has been stated before BP are still not 100% liable
two other oil companies haliburton and XXXXXX ? were the makers and installers of the rig itself and the saftey valve
the inquest into what actually happened is underway
i always thought in america you were innocent until proven guilty but so much has happened recently to complete dispell that rumour ( guantanamo / abu grahib / iraq / afgahnistan )and listening to question time last night
one person raised the issue of bhopal where the victims are still in court 20 years on trying to get compensation from an american company who polluted / didn't do the safety bit... exxon valdez where it took 15 years for the americans to cough up the compensation
the niger delta american companies are spilling as much as is being spilt in the gulf daily but somehow a blind eye is being turned to that issue
contradictory / blinkered american politics.... really fucked up
yet they jump down BP's throatsThe reason BP are in the headlines is roughly because Haliburton and Transocean were subcontractors to BP. BP were the main contractor/well owners and have ultimate responsibility. The main contractors get the gross share of the profits and by default the gross share of the risk. If the inquest deems that Haliburton or Transocean were liable then BP will have to pay in full and then pursue those at fault for the costs later. That's why America are blaming BP. Because, as main contractors/owners, BP are responsible.
The question isn't "who's responsible?" it is "did anyone point out that this was possible and decide to ignore the risks?". Because when all of that falls out the finger willm most likely be pointing directly at BP and the MMS.
Interestingly one of the things Obama set out to do was to get rid of the corruption in the Mineral Management Service. He actually gutted it and got rid of a bunch of their "worst" people last year. But it looks like he didn't go far enough.

This.
As far as I can tell there are more Brits making this an issue of nationality (and incorrectly) than there are Americans.

"the dirty cloud of oil and gas that has become a symbol of nature's ability to bite back against man's insatiable demand for energy"
What a fucking crock of shit.
I never understand all this man v nature bullshit we're subjected to, what makes man unnatural? We are no more unnatural that a cow in a field. But for some reason The media never seem to protray it in that way. We, like every other species will exist for a tiny amount of time in relation to this planet, and then we'll be gone. We won't have a huge impact on this planet.
Actually i'll stop now and let another man much wiser than I take over, he's a comedian, but what he says is true:

cows in fields=fucking miracles!
Thats whats really pissing me off as well, its ok anywhere else just not on there doorstep. The tone of the politicians grilling the chairman yesterday was disgusting. He isn't going to accept responsibility until an inquest has been made. There still saying that everything they did was o.k'd by the U.S.
