Just a heads up to all Berlin based members, riding either brakeless or with a single brake. The Police appear to be conducting roadside stops again this summer. I was caught a couple weeks back on Alexanderstraße, as I was running a single front brake and no lights (it was day time, though I was told I need to have lights mounted on the bike) - despite this, they told me what I needed to know but let me off, presumably because I was a foreigner.
Any native Berliners/Germans know what our individual rights are if we are stopped? Are the Police able to confiscate the bike, or make one pay on the spot?
