Old Polo Thread

lets push it back to 7.30? maybe a couple more people want to play polo before the weekend starts

think we need to have 1 weekend session and 1 weekday session that are fixed times and place, regular every week and any extra polo arranged as and when by interested people via forum etc.

every now and then we give out flyers or you'll talk to someone who seems interested, but you have to say "we play thursdays, sundays and sometimes tuesdays but the time and place we decide last minute on a geeky forum you're probably not on". if there were fixed arrangements twice a week that could be told with confidence that it would be happening then and there, could go in the description of the facebook group, and we could all make sure we're in one mcr polo FB group and leave the others, so that people who know us can find actual true information on facebook. everyone is one facebook (sorry rob.) but most ppl are not on lfgss.

even emma and gareth from yesterday have to hear details by text. and i imagine mark too. sophie has said that she and martin are often unaware of where we are. anyone who is without internet at home or work has to text someone. i think for new ppl especially it would make sense to have some regular arrangement that can be assumed to be on every week

Yeah totally agree with all your points, I also suggest that we take turns on sending out texts and updating sites to spread the responsibility and even a polo phone so we can use it for texts and an answer phone message saying when we play and where it could be the polo party line

polo party line great idea.
the saturday session is good to recommend to beginners dont you agree?
if two definite days are needed, how about saturday and sunday ?
the manchester bike polo facebook group can be modified by everyone, were all admins. we should put some more effort into it, its a bit cack so far.

texting could be quite expensive for those who don't have unlimited texts, especially if you have to text everyone a couple of times a night. why don't we just link the mcr polo forum page to the mcr polo fb page, then everyone can at least view it, then those who haven't joined can text someone to add their name to any lists?

can't imagine many people will wanna give up their whole weekend...

that makes a bit of sense yoav, however this is about havingh definite dates which we can reliably supply to interested people or newcomers and i think the best time that IS the weekend. besides the Hips & company already play on saturday mornings and have invited people then as they have found it is quite a sociable time of day .

Either share it with people who can afford/have free texts or we all chip in a couple of squid and get a mobile on pay as you go/simpilicty or something along those lines. I'd be be up for donating money regularly into a kitty to pay for such things, hopefully a few others would too. OR even try for funding or sponsorship!?

Im willing to put some time into the facebook tonight, better/more suggestions please

i can do the texts for nothing :)

i think i have a PAYG phone we could use. i'll look for it.

we could put the sat morning chorlton and thursevening whitworth (for example) on the facebook page and any future flyers. BTW i know we haven't had much luck from flyers but emma came from getting a flyer and has been 3 times now in 2 weeks. paul started after a critical mass that ended in plattfields and some of us went on and played after. also people who vaguely know any of us should be able to find out something reliable just by clicking around facebook.

Yeah flyers are good because you get to talk to ppl direct and if your enthusiastic enough their bound to get the bug

ok just seen all this. i and nes have been handing out the flyers that marek had on his facebook page to a ton of people at various events (sukk ride, parklife, ibikemcr gig tonight) which say tues, thurs, sun and saturday morning but this week we havent played at whitworth any of these nights.

i know that certain people are mad up for it at the moment but its a shame that with this weather its only 3/4 every time. i still think that we could play 3 times a week but im totally down with Si's suggestion that we just make it thursday and Sunday but lets try and do tuesdays as well but maybe only come on tuesday if you will definately do thursday as well.

also surely there are more than just paul yoav and me up for the Brum trip on the 4th.....?

I am still the only person updating the twitter, could people please check the feed first to check someone else hasn't done it and if not update it before they leave to polo of earlier in the day if possible.

i will pm the log-in details again to a wider group of us than before

yeah ben, i wasn't say always just twice a week. but two automatic days that we try to keep clear of other things. and you can tell new people about and know there will actually be people there for sure. and then tuesdays when people want more.

on a quiet week, it's better to get 8 or 9 people on thurs only than 5 on tues and 5 on thurs

we almost always play on thursdays. but once a month we play wednesday at chorlton park a team based mini league. these weeks thursdays can get cancelled in the likely event of lack of interest

i have loads of spray paint you can have, lots of different colours, available for pickup Saturday morning
