Shooting a film

  • I work for a post house, and its getting a bit boring seeing loads of oher peoples work pass through so i thought it would be fun, especially given the improving weather to shoot a film around london if anyone is interested.

I've got a Nikon D5000 which does video, but if any one else has other stuff to use, or feels like showing off give me a shout

  • Good on you for going for it. I've always wanted to do it

Help out! Always good to have more people to help out on a shoot.

  • What sort of stuff were you thinking of doing? Wouldnt mind getting in on some of the graphics stuff if you want a hand.

  • That would be amazing!

I'm not too sure what it'll work out as, it depends on who gets involved and what they're into

  • ...

thanks for the link, i'll check it out in more detail when i get a chance, I hadn't looked into the stepping problem, but i'll get it sorted for the final thing

the main problem is the rolling shutter, but the only way round that is another camera or expensive software that i don't have

Rolling shutter is fairly easy to solve too, you just need to offset the camera's sensor readout in post, as the read out is very fast (but not universal so as to avoid rolling shutter) and the finest resolution you can employ in post is 1/25 (or 1/29.97 or 1/24) you need to do a bit of clever maths combined with some pixel interpolation.

I worked it out for After Effects but the same technique would work just as well in any NLE or compositor that have some form of pixel interpolation (Timewarp, twixtor etc).

  • . . . . I aways believe in stifling creativity by getting bogged down in technicalities before you have shot a single frame . . .

    : P

  • people are quite harsh about the d5000.
i have it and i fucking love it .
    awesome introduction to digitail.

  • if you fail to plan you plan to fail

  • I'll help out. Pity you'll not be needing props. I want to make things.

    it is indeed!

  • I almost forgot! I have a decent super8 if that tickles anyone's analogue fancy

means a bit of budget is required though

  • I'm a part-time soundman and I could interested depending on what you're doing!

  • I'll do the music :)

  • I have some 16 mm shortends in my fridge? What's the story?

  • i have a big cock. if you lot have any teen sisters?
    i'm not camera shy.

  • Hi I'm Morgan, I can help!*

    *not really.

The shortends would be great, but i only have super8 and standard 8 cameras, no idea of any story as yet, but i thought try and get people together first and see where is goes
