  • Dearest Clefty,
I am sorry to hear that you are in doubt for Saturday...
I will check this thread tomorrow as I would like to ride to Brighton on Saturday.
    Keep up the strength.
    Peace and Love,
    Tim

  • Heal fast Claire ... x

  • Ok, I've just mapped the updated route, it's a bit of Oli's, a bit of Ed's and a bit of Stix's

  • love how it starts at the bandstand on clapham common!

It looks like a really nice route Claire

  • Looks fab. Really looking forward to it. Hope you heal soon, Claire, and thanks for all the work you've done on this!

  • Route looks spot on, Claire, nice work. Just one thing: Just before turn 29, I wouldn't stay on the B2037 but do a right into Effingham Lane, which emerges further south on Turner's Hill Road. That turn is easy to miss at night, but in the daytime you shouldn't have a problem.

  • How are you feeling Claire? Is the recce still on for tomorrow? I'm trying to decide between a long casual jaunt to Brighton or the chaos of the circle line ride...

  • If the recce is still on, I'd be up for a ride to brighton tomorrow and I have a garmin we could use.

  • Vicky (Stix) and I are both still up for the recce tomorrow.
We are sticking to the plan of setting off at 8am from Clapham Common bandstand.
Vicky and I live north London. If anyone else wants to join us for the ride down to Clapham we'll be meeting at Archway tower for 7am.

Maybe I should start a list so we know who expect at Clapham?

  • grr, the back ain't up to it - so I'm out, sorry kids - was really looking forward to it, but just can't risk it..bloody work trip..grr
The weather looks perfect too, have a great ride and plenty of feedback on the route would be much appreciated! Stix, if you don't make the actual ladies ride I'm screwed! :-)

  • So how did it go kids? Jah tim called me a few hours ago, saying all was well - although you got a bit lost around Haywards Heath..

  • Hey yep got a little lost coming out of lindfield but trying to by pass Haywards Heath
But sorted as will not be making that mistake again !!
But all in all a very pretty route a few rolling bits and to note the Porthnails Road coming into Redhill is a slight climb but manageable for sure
Dont worry will not be letting you down will be on the ride Clefty :)
I am actually going to be doing this again Saturday just to be sure and not to get lost !
The weather was great ! Thanks Jah tim , Gav ,Scary and Fussball for the company and great riding
Gav hope the knee is feeling better today rest up and take care

  • Twas a lovely ride, even the 'detour' was down impossibly pretty country lanes. I wish we'd been able to hang around longer at the beach, those beers went down a treat and there was some quality chav spotting on offer. My knee is feeling better too, although I need to start my ITB exercises again if I want to continue to do 70 mile rides fixed. My next Brighton run will be geared ftw!

  • Greetings folks,
Just to say what a lovely ride on Saturday....!
Just five people, nice gentle ride down to Brighton, no mechanicals, great company, nice scenery and yes what a pleasant way to spend a Saturday. There were a few moments when we were riding down lanes in the sun and I was thinking isn't life just great.
Give thanks to those who rode - I hope my pace, or lack of, was not a problem... I had 76.6miles on my clock when I got back home.
The last four times I have ridden down to Brighton has been on the charidee tip, so it helps if there is someone in a high viz vest at every junction pointing you in the right direction. Between the 5 of us we did alright using everything from maps, crib sheets to iphones to get us there.
Thanks again and enjoy the ride down there ladies you will be in safe hands!
    Peace and Love,
    Tim

  • Yeah, thanks everyone for a lovely ride on Saturday. Not sure what we'd have done without fig rolls and i-phones?!
Sorry about that missed turning...alarm bells should've started ringing when we were riding through Scaynes Hill and I was thinking, hmm, not sure I've been this way before!
Thank goodness the detour was pretty enough to make up for the extra miles. One of the nicest bits of the route.
Vicks and I reckon we did nearly 90 miles in all. No wonder I was struggling to stand up during the footy afterwards. (Or maybe that was just England's uninspiring performance...)

  • This ride was a real pleasure; thank you scary, Stix, gav and JAh tim. Thank you clefty for putting this beautiful route together! Good to hear your knee is already better, gav. We got lost a couple of times and were always able to go back unto the route until we headed east along the A272 from Lindfield to Newick. This allowed for an improvised very good stretch on some small carfree roads - where I learned all about beech hedges from Stix - towards the eastern end of the B2112 which we took with the beautiful South Downs looming to the South into Ditchling. Once over the hill we rolled into Brighton and had some food and beers on the beach.

  • After reading the above posts on the recce, I'm looking forward to this ride despite my low mileage non-prep. Will chocolate biscuits/rolls work in place of fig rolls?

  • Sure hope so. Chocolate biscuits and rolls are my prep. Oh, wait...

I'm really looking forward to this ride, especially after hearing tales from the recce. Sounds like a lovely route :)

  • I'll bring fig rolls ... yay, I love fig rolls (or is that another thread ...).

Back on the bike today after the recent bump, reckon I'll still be in the running for the ride, but anyone who needs an excuse for walking the hills can use my knees!!

Excellent! I'll even give you a chocolate roll for being so good :-).

  • hello all,

    just found this great thread..

ok, so i'm relatively new to lfgss but.. i like bikes and i like to ride.. whenever i can.

i've currently been doing an 80 miles per week commute - sometimes fixed, sometimes coasting on the single speed and am looking to up my game and go on some nice rides with some nice folk.
i would've loved to have gone on the two rides talked about here, but unfortunately already have plans..
if anyone can point me in the direction of a good evening ride, or indeed anything that's coming up like the ones in this thread, it woud be much appreciated.
it doesn't have to be women only.. just nice people : )

    thanks!

  • p.s - i'm west london.
