  • First thing first, *make sure it fit you.*

  • Yeah, it does fit me, I made sure of that when I got it.
    I should also point out that I have pretty much stripped the bike down since these photos, so what's next?

  • well, wheel? chain? saddle? etc.

  • Are there any good brands I should consider?
    Also, is the bike I got okay for the conversion?

  • Looks like a very late 70's or early 80's PZ10 or something.
    You don't need to look for good brands, the bike will be a beater.

  • nope, not at all. I consider mine a beater, I wouldn't be scared to crash it into a ditch.

  • beater i.e. cheap part but does not necessary mean rubbish.

    look at on-one for wheelset as well as Sheldon Brown for general bit and bobs.

  • Get some pake cranks, cheap but very good imo.

    On-one wheelset is very, very good for the money. I've just replaced my charge wheelset with these are they are light and can take quite a beating.

  • I thought I would vent a bit of rage. I always assumed late 70's and 80's Peugeots (not including 'proper' lugged frames) were a budget option, I mean, I have three carbolite/mangalloy and not one of them cost over £20 to buy as a complete bike, one was free.
    Just checking ebay for a cleaner less scratched frame to port my components across onto and to my surprise everyone is going mad for base spec 103 carbolites.
    What have I missed?

  • You might find you want to cut a little more off of those to get a nice looking shape that is still comfy. You only really sit on the flat sections and then butt up against the curve, so you don't need quite so much curve. Just my own opinion on the matter, it is of course your choice.

  • I see your point, I really wasn't getting on with the lack of curve on the Easton bars, my hands kept slipping forward, so I though I would leave a curve on these ones, I had the stem in a vice and tested how it felt before I chopped them, they felt about right.

  • Hi, apologies if I ask something stupid but I'm new to the custom fixie game! Really glad I found this thread cos I've decided to convert an old peugeot for my next bike. I built a dirt jump bike years ago but new to the fixie stuff so I have a couple of questions about flip-flop wheelsets. (decided to go flip flop because I want to try fixie but would like a freewheel option if i dont get on with it)

    If i get a flip flop rear wheelset like one of these:

    What else do I need on the back wheel? A sprocket for either side and a (BMX) freewheel? I've not heard great things about create, but good value with tyres included.

    I'll take photos as I go along as payment for your advice! Hopefully I'll have a nice bike at the end of it!
