watch the Ribble sizes, they call it from a c-c seat tube. For a 56 tt you need the 52

where are you bubba ? i would definately recommend a trip to brick lane bikes
even just to gaze and prod
if you can't get an idea of what single speed fixie you want in there i would head back to MTB's -

lol you lads..., i knw how clued up you are on frames, weather it's fixed gear or gear'd should have no relevance, at the moment i'm looking at frame sizes and makes / models which suit the measurements i've been given. yes for me i'd be looking for 10speed twin chain ring on campag.

For 1k new bike budget, three choices always worth checking are:
Focus Cayo
Planet x Pro Carbon (Ultegra groupset for 1k)
Boardman Team Carbon -

oh and for the record yes i have a Genesis IO MTB (ss) and a genesis IO ID (single speed setup for with alfine rear hub with 8 gears - i call it my single speed with benefits winter mtb bike (climbing hills in winter is no fun at all with one gear, but driveline is excellent hence my choice..
and my other bike i'm sure you'd all hate is a bionicon Edison full suspension 27gears !..location wise i'm in reading berkshire, but do come into london once or twice a week over to euston tube station & warren street tube..

Boardman's wonderful, but go to Condor though, you can able to spec exactly what you want.

I got a Reynolds 653 58cm frameset coming my way soon, will probably be a shimano double nine speed when done. £400 is about the going rate with nice paint. Worth considering given the saving.

i take it this is LBS, i'll look them up and see if it's in reach when i next go into london..

yes i'm also interested in used bikes, but all depends on the gem c-c seat tube of 560 & c-c top tube of 557 (with 10% tollerance) are the main elements, also the fact that i am swayed towards camp shifters / drivechain.

When I wanted to spend a bit of money on a geared bike the Cayo was the only one on my mind. Ended up spending all my money on lazy bikes instead but I seen a Cayo in our shop the other day and it was amazing looking. And they are equally amazing value too.

Campag shifiters are okay if you get the more pricey ones. Chorus carbon 10 speed levers used go about £90. Record £150.

i have been doing a little more reading and shifters for my taste it seems would be either Capmpag xenon and upwards or Shimano Tiagra of this i've been searching for a few options..
trek 1.5 (56cm) tiagra shifters double £775
genesis aether 20 (58cm) tiagra shifters double $800
giant defy 2 (m/l) tiagra compact £825
Wilier escape (l/xl) camp xenon £800
Bianchi VN7 (57cm) tiagra double £825 or camp xenon £750the other thing i noted was that the trek ans genesis as they are will take winter mudguards which may help during the wet season for keeping on the saddle..
but anyone sway either of the above as better / worse ?, i think this is my short list for buying at my LBS and getting it set up correctly, outside of that it would be Focus Cayo from wiggle or somthing like that.
the other option is to buy 2nd hand but i'm struggling to find anything which is of a second hand price on tiagra / xenon shifters and the right sizing of frame, people seem to want near on new prices fo used kit ??..i mean i just sold my Trek FUel Ex 9 2010 frame with extra parts for £650, new the frame cost's £1,200 without the additional parts, so i worked on the half it value even though it had only four rides on it, where as i've seen a focus cayo road bike which cost new £1.4 and is trying to sell for £999 ???, surely this should be around the £500 - 600 mark ?.. anyway i'd buy 2nd hand if it was god value for money as in most cases buy new you have warrenty buy used you have nothing..

how about a kinesis racelight t2 or tk2 build?
-
• #23
I have some Tiagra sti double nine speeds to sell soon, let me know if you want first dibs or they will go on the bay. Other bits will include. Tiagra rear mech, sora front mech, cinelli bars. Campag brakes.
You can build the bike you want for about £350 or £450 wiv fancy wheels.

My first thought at the mention of mudguard clearances too.

took a quick look but not sure on the frame sizes within my limits, and i'm not technical enough to know how to manipulate components to correct the frame differences for my setup...

yeah if somthing turns up frame wise i'll definitly be in touch surrounding the shifters, but at the mo i have nothing road bike wise.. i'll give you a PM if somthing turns up and see if you still have them, it may work out that i get a whole bike 2nd hand so don't put them down on dibs for me, i'll come begging if need be :-)...
My first thought at the mention of mudguard clearances too.
is the mudguard clearance jsut down the brake type?, or is this also to do with the frame / form mix ?.
Well i'm useually a MTB'er but might step over to teh dark side and get a road bike, i went to my local bike shop and had a fiting session and these are my specs..
Crank - middle of top tube by seat post = 560mm
top tube centre to centre of seat post = 557mm
and around the 73* angle front and back..
front forks to rear mech hanger = 991mm.
looking at crank arms of 172.5
ideally camp drive chain and shifters, but open to suggestions..
the local bike shop have suggested a few models such as :-
trek 1.2 / 1.5 (56cm)
Genesis (58cm)
giant (M/L)
ridley eos (Medium)
blanchi vn7 (57cm)
basso devil (56cm)
i too have had a look around and come up with :-
Cube
claud butler, chinook, criterium, san remio, roubaix & milano (all 23" frame)
Ribble Audax (56cm) (plus this has campag drive chain and shifters..)
also Focus i think came in on some ranges but can't pin point now the models..
price wise not looking to spend more than £1k, and if i buy 2nd hand potentially get better value for money..
any suggestions welcome, should i buy new from the shop and have a warrenty frame or buy second hand ?.. also any new suggestions to suitable frame ??
cheers in advance
bubba.
