I failed an exam due to this forum. The worst thing was that I spent most of my time looking at pictures of fucking cats. (Not literally, not really into feline porn). I suppose I really need to academically HTFU. Looking forward to joining some rides after the resit.

Suburbanite here - Chilterns way. So much nice riding that I'm just begining to realise is on my door, just gonna lurk about and soak up the knowledge for a bit before spending too much I think. Or spunk half my savings on that purple Colnago, one or t'other. Pleased to be here, seems like a good place to be around.

Welcome! There are some good hills to be had in the Chilterns. I've been crossing them on my commute for the past couple of months and am starting to vary my route to climb hills from different/multiple directions. Lovely countryside, and some great views. Where are you based? -

Sounds like sage advice.
I'm in High Wycombe. Just on the fringes of the Chilterns, yeah a lot of nice countryside, a lot left for me to explore. That's quite a commute you've got from the sounds of it, Where do you go from/to?

Ah not too far away from me. I live in Oxford but work in Reading so I commute along the B480/B481, often deviating on the way home to take a more scenic route (more hills). I also need to explore a lot more! -

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum - been lurking for a while but finally joined as I'm looking to get a new frame.
I'm an illustrator/print-maker living in Finsbury Park. I currently ride a battered Langster. Sorry about that.

I've been lurking for a few months/ posting for a few weeks but havn't yet done the formal "My name is Rono and I love bikes"
I live and work in E8. i ride a black mystery frame (lugging suggests Mercian) with deep red deatiling on luggs and brown chrome tipped forks. I'd love to get involved in some of the rides and eventually the races. I look forward to meeting like minded fellows.

This shop recently opened below where I live. Thoroughly approve of what he's doing bringing some bike culture to the hood >>> for all your vintage steel needs. Enjoy !

Yeah, quite a nice ride though. I don't do it every day, need some recovery time! Let me know if you fancy a roll through the Oxfordshire countryside sometime.

Hi.
I recently went fixed, and can't imagine going back for a while. I ride round Hackney, and I want to get into bike polo.

Hi.
I'm not based in London. Not at all. I'm actually from Poland, some obscure hole hardly anyone has heard of.
I've been riding fixed since summer 2009 and have gone through a couple of stages, from not being able to ride freewheel anymore to appreciating it again, while still preferring fixed. I read once that fixies, being in fashion and all, are a gateway drug to all forms of cycling. Even though I had taken cycling for granted for all my life, it was the fixed wheel that let me rediscover the joys :). I'm not hardcore at all, only ridden brakeless in the winter - on a lowish gear. Recently, I've tried some polo and sucked at it, but it was fun!I like to visit bike junk-shops, also I've befriended the crew at at least one LBS here, so sometimes I have access to nice stuff, like the NOS white saddle that I sold through classifieds.
I also enjoy writing longish, uninteresting posts on various forums. -

Hi forum, I'm Timo from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and these are my current bikes. A protest bike for my girl. She's an art school student (Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam) and the text reads "leftish hobby" which is what some right wing politicians in The Netherlands call all subsidies for art and culture. They want to stop all such subsidies and she's obviously against such plans. Waiting for the ordered pedals but otherwise almost complete: Steel Zieleman frame, Cinelli stem and bar, Campagnolo Record high flange hubs and DT18 rims, Salsa brake lever and RX100 brake. My own bike is a Presto. Not the Japanese manufacturer! Presto is a bike shop in Amsterdam. They used to have a line of Columbus tubed steel frames. They were build in the factory of Andrea Pesenti in Italy, painted in Belgium and build up in Amsterdam. I've build this with the frame from the geared racing bike I owned 15 years ago. In 1999 I passed it on to a room mate when I bought a new bike. Much to my surprise I ran into him a few months ago and found that he still owned the bike. Nostalgia got the better of me and he actually gave me the bike back for free. I stripped it of all the old Shimano 8sp stuff and got some old (80s/90s I hope the experts in this forum can tell me?) Campagnolo Record Pista stuff - crankset, bottom bracket headset, seat post, chain - several wheelsets (some FG, some SS) and old 80s Campa Record front brake and dug up my 20 years old Rolls saddle. Pedals are Shimano and have to be changed to Campa in the near future, wheels are Record hubs with Sapim spokes and Mavic GP4 tubular rims. Stem and handlebar are Cinelli A1 and Criterium.
