The BIke bus - does this exist?

Posted on
  • Im looking for a bike bus that I have heard mysterious talk of, but can't seem to find.
I need it to take 7 bikes from the ferry port to the beach in france, whilst a group of us follow behind on public transport with surfboards.
    Anyone know anything???

  • i thought you said you were using bike trailors to carry the boards?

  • Thanks Ronnie!
Yeah we are, but most of the girls are primarily surfers, so 100 K riding with board, tent, wetsuits and other stuff would eat into too much of our holiday time I reckon!

  • Am in Dana Point for a couple of days, on the Pacific Coast between LA and San Diego, just got back from an evening stroll around, and saw this lady with mad handlebars, sitting by the roadside. Then a Bus pulls up, and she proceeds to stick her bike on a bike carrier sticking out from the front of the bus (next to another mad bandlebar bike).

Can't see it catching on in London, but this place seems to bring out the love in everyone, including bus drivers, it's already climbing well up up my favourite places in the world list.

Lots of teens on fixies - but most folk here are on serious road machines, there are tons of them around, hilly like cornwall.

  • lots of US cities have them, Seattle buses have them too.

  • They are illegal on Uk roads

  • Bike buses?

Not at all illegal, there is even one which runs from Keighley to Bradford. I'm not sure if there are any safety requirements that may prohibit carriage of bikes on the front of a vehicle (I wouldn't imagine so if tractors are allowed to drive along with a ruddy great digger on the front), but the use of buses to carry bicycles hasn't ever been, not I suspect will it be, illegal in the UK.

Don't make me go on the front of a tractor...

  • Actually a lot of fun.

  • Saw that in SF for the first time ... so cool!

  • got them in austin to.

  • It looks like the worlds largest fork lift

  • Ironic that you carry all sort of pointy bits on cars, but at my last MOT they stuck a piece of duct tape over a hole in the rear light unit as it had sharp edges to the hole.
