  • Hi all, new member here.

I just picked up what I think is a PX-10 frame (it is the Puymorens which is apparently a PX-10-SH or summin) - this is a really handy thread for ideas - already got my eye on some nice gumwalls. Pictures to follow once I get some proper work started on it.

  • Nice on naturals, keep us updated.

My Pug died a year ago or so, or at least I thought it did... More to follow.

  • I bought this bike for 30 euro's (not the one in the picture, but the same model). Aperently it's a Corboprofile, a 100 year aniversary edition. Is it moraly responsable to convert it to a fixed gear or should I try to fix it?

  • it look in perfect condition, it'd be mad to just convert it when there's plenty of life left in it

  • Please don't convert that, it would be wrong, just tidy it up and keep it as it is.

  • Not that I know anything about Peugeots, but I'd say to Jeff, convert it if you want ... just maybe don't hack any brazeons off. You're better off riding it than buffing it.

  • does anyone know what the wheels are on that ?

  • ^
I don't know, they have no stickers...
I'll strip the bike and convert it, but i will keep the brazeons... Thanks for the advice!

  • What groupset is it running?

  • it seems a mix of different brands... Derailleur is Simplex, hubs are DA, rims are Mavic GP-4, cranks seem to be brandless, chainrings are suntour...

  • sound pretty good actually, make a decent little road bike, has it ever been ridden at all?

In the end it is your bike, and it's really down to you on whatever you want to convert it or not.

  • The thing is I allready have a Ridley Damocles road bike, and I need a beater to get around. I'll be carefull not to brake any parts when stripping down, so it's possible to build it up again in some time!

  • You go girl.

  • My current aim, which is what I think you should do with this bike, is to run a nice old steel bike as a fixed gear for the city, but have the gears and geared rear wheel to put on for weekend use or longer countryside rides. I've tried this a little with other bikes and I'll happily spend an hour every couple of weeks swapping the wheel and sticking the gears back on to be able to have a bike that does everything I want without needing a spare bike!

  • I think I recall a flip flop hubs that have fixed on one side and the other geared.

    sound possible.

  • You could use a disc hub and bolt a compatible sprocket to it, then keep the gears on the other side, the chainline will be way off, but hey.

  • Like this?

    Seems weird to me.

  • Two thing you'd need to know - a single chainring up front to make life easier, and a 3/32t fixed cog instead of a 1/8th.

the only hindrence is simply the change of chain that's required for this.

  • I've been thinking about whether it'd be possible to get the chainline right with a wheel that has fixed/geared flip flop. The chainline might be a little easier to sort if you use a 5/6 speed rather than 7/8/9. I prefer the look of the older 5/6 freewheels anyway. For the chain, you could just magic link in the extra section for when riding geared, then take it out when riding fixed.

  • 5 speed is easier to deal with (especially with friction shift), but have you though about what are you going to do with the rear derailieur when you flipped the wheel?

  • Just went the fastest Iv'e ever been on a bike on my Peugeot 'Racing Team'. A sphincter tightening 37mph.
(If Halfords cyclo computers can be trusted. Still, fast for me!)

  • Have you got a picture of this amazing speed machine?!

  • Certainly....

    Ahem.

    That's with 53/16 gearing. I've got a 14 somewhere, oh dear.

  • No wonder you got 37mph. That sounds slow now you tell us you're on track gearing!

  • Hey everyone, I have recently bought a Peugeot bike hoping to turn it into a fixed gear. I have read through this thread and found it very helpful. Despite this however I am still very knew to this whole fixed gear thing and would like to know what are good brands, what to buy, etc.

Here are some pictures of the bike I purchased, not really sure on the model or year:
