  • Yeah I'm local too andsd will keep an eye out. Picture would help.

As others have said Gospel Oak is fucking dodgy and only minutes from there.

  • Ah guys thanks for your help. The frame has no markings whatsoever, it's a bit knackered-obviously been repainted badly a few times. I'm looking for some picts of the parts, but i know i don't have one of the bike in the state is was knicked in. The lock probably wasn't sufficient and annoyingly the plastic dust cover/cap on my newyork broke so you couldn't get the key in-in transit back to manufacturer, so obvs not in use, but i (did) always use a kyrtonite loop through the saddle in addition to other locks just incase someone tried to nick the saddle. But it could have gone anyway...anyhow, and i have to stop being annoyed with myself at some point. It is the thieves fault, not mine...a combination of bad judement, bad luck and bad people...urgh

  • Thank you for this mate. It is useful and I'm happy to know it's still within the local vicinity. Do you have any other info? What was he wearing, what colour was the tape, did you get any visual on him? Any info will really help, thanks a lot.

And yes Camdenstrangler, you spotted dodgy Bianchi man too! That bike was kind of hawt...

I did not see a Lemond of any sort, sorry can't help you there. :(

Saw Bianchi Man...on the tennents super...oh ...the ...class...

  • was there too this morning, full suspension orange klein being touted about.

That's mine! Got knicked last Sunday. Do you know who was selling it??

  • That's mine! Got knicked last Sunday. Do you know who was selling it??

I was there about 2.30 and it was still there, so I doubt it was bought by anyone. Head down there next Sunday and it might be there again.

  • No sorry, just your usual thieving scum.

Hopefully not. I'll be down there next Sunday, anyway. I don't go to Brick Lane much - do you get many weeks where the same bikes are there? I figured that they'd be gone within a week.

    Appreciate the info!

No prob, thanks for bringing it up. They need their legs breaking.

Hey Psephos....it's not really a case of who...as they all look vaguely the same, unshaven, gobshite eastenders, Tracksuits, burberry, special brew/super, reebok classics,...

I'm not trying to be rude or elitist...however, I fail to understand the perpetuation of glory surrounding these prize A cunts...

thats what soo got my goat about the police, If they had actually been doing their little jolly less than 50 metres around the corner...'Sales' for the day would have had to have been abandoned...how many £500 bikes can you punt off at £70, with a copper standing on your left shoulder..
As it was, 15 policemen stood around drinking coffee and chatting the shit, whilst endemic bike theft and sale happened 'live' in 'real time' literally around the fucking corner?

and they wonder why we raise an eyebrow as to their seriousness...

The jumped up little prick was attempting to say...ahhh...yes...but you just watch what happens in a few weeks...

yes...next sunday morning you'll have a groupthink about how it went...more coffee,...more pr...and you'll rock up at half past fucking one again after the theives have been trading for 4 hours?
..I know it's slowly slowly catchy monkey...and that they are trying not to start a riot...however...you want to make a good impression...?
you go and nick all those that are punting a bike..

and then ask questions?...you put the pictures of the bike in metro.,..You make the public aware of this new bike theft initiative and people will respond, every one that I make a bike for..regardless of it's type, is always gutted its been stolen.

10 happy owners...? reunited because of a good description? It really is simple...it sorts it's self out....

I don't see how it has to be some sort of 'french connection' sting...Why would it need to be, it's localised immediate theft, it's a weekly supply and demand problem...it would be solveable. Within 3 months you would have nicked the same people over and over...
It's not a case of catching them stealing it..but selling it...if it is stolen..you take the damned bike off them.
You put 3 or 4 bikes in the paper and the rest on a webpage..If its a nodder bike...they will have a receipt to prove ownership...

with us ...you have photos, you know the bike inside out and can tell them it has a fault or a scratch or it has a spec list as long as your arm you know back to front..

I just wonder, thats why the rant.

Will this exercise actually do anything towards minimising the bike theft culture that exists, I mean compared to how may are stolen and how many reappear for sale, and the time delay between the two...

Have they already fucked it up by appearing at one of the main sales arenas mob handed anyway? every one now knows to be a bit more cagey? rather than have had lots of different cops go under cover for a sunday morning and buy a bike...each week a different copper buys a stolen bike of the same person?

would it have been better to collate the links between gumtree, the habitual sellers on there?

It just smells of bullshit PR with policemen on bikes because bikes are trendy and it will help win a vote, It's a shame to be so faithless, however I don't think they have done this to help reduce bike theft...

or there would have been some huge 'sting' already...I'm sure they think it's not a 'serious' problem ...every sunday there, there must be a short fall of cash between the cost of something new and how much its resale value is..

what would that add up to? you regularly see bikes of a thousand pounds being sold for a couple of hundred, that is the second hand bike ceiling limit..

on the street at 9am on a sunday morning...your £1500 bike is £250...maximum....

    rant over..again.,..

I have just had a weird few days. and seeing that farce yesterday really twistedmy melon!!

  • I feel your pain. I really do. They're fucking useless.

  • Hey Psephos....it's not really a case of who...as they all look vaguely the same, unshaven, gobshite eastenders, Tracksuits, burberry, special brew/super, reebok classics,...

I'm agreed from the experience I've had with them so far...The theft took the Klein and also a red Carlton with wooden handlebars (so both v distinctive), which has also been seen by someone on this forum, at Hackney Wick station. Called the police and they couldn't help in anyway and were somewhat rude. Clearly hundreds of bikes are stolen every day but I always assumed they'd have a reporting system in place that they could follow up on with CCTV, etc.

Re Brick Lane: It has to be a PR exercise. If the police force had any common sense and functioning internal communications they'd have a list of the bikes stolen in London that week to look out for at the market. The fact that mine is bright orange, clearly v expensive and that I gave them a comprehensive descrip (down to the make/type of forks, gear make and model, etc) makes it all the more baffling that not one of them picked up on it.

    I absolutely despair.

  • There is no real policing in Brick Lane. Look on the junction of Scatler street, there are a bunch of Eurasian (racist™) pondlife selling bootleg tobacco right under the CCTV pole.

Most 'community ' plod want to do no more than hand out 'I've met the Met' stickers. Not bad for 28k a year and 5 o levels.

  • A PR exercise? Boris? Never...

I absolutely despair too. That idea of going down there with a list is so simple but can only be done by the police.

We need to start a campaign.

I'm really annoyed with myself as I read your post about the Carlton but missed the bit about the klein. If I had of known it was someone from here I would have gone for a permanent test ride. No way those little f***ers could keep up with me.

  • im the same, sorry i missed that one, shows the value of a picture to prompt the memory.

Yeah, my housemate didn't have one of the Klein when he put up the Carlton and then mine wouldn't load so got stuck with links to shots. Hindsight is always a killer.

  • Not aimed at you, just a general note to everyone to document their bikes, frame numbers, pics etc.

  • thats right outside my shop, that fella got his collar felt on sunday......no doubt he will be back next week.

All good, just kicking myself for not loading pics!

  • It wouldn't really work that well, as long there's a market, there'll always be stolen bicycle.

people are balantly buying the stolen bike knowing fully well that it's pretty dodgy already in the first place.

getting the police to focus on Brick Lane only going to make the theft move elsewhere to sell the bike, but if the police do it carefully for a prolonged period of time, chance are the number will be reduced, but because there's always people who willing to pay little for stolen bicycle, there'll always a market for it.

Yeah, I saw that. For someone who seems to know what the bike is, they're letting it go suspiciously cheaply.

  • Lots of parts went missing around East London yesterday, I lost a caliper, a friend lost a rear mech, etc.

I'm going back to glueing ball bearings, re-ordering parts is no fun.

  • Google the phone number and look at the chap's flickr - seems to be a bona fide hipsterfixieskidder.

The ad is taken down, seems more sus, or someone has just picked up a real bargain.
