I was actually talking about going down it.
Its not such a big hill.
The last Oxford ride (that I remember- cos I met the bastards when they arrived), it ended with a broken collarbone, and several people crashing, as its super winding on the downhill- and the road surface, as with most Oxfordshire roads (esp after this winter) is shit.

Just a gentle warning- take a brake.

Oh and I'll meet you kids at the end maybe- depending on speed of packing.

I think it's just a mistake. Makes more sense to start from Richmond Green, also I actually know where it is so from a purely selfish perspective I'd much prefer to start there!

Is the plan to head to a pub once we get to Oxford? I might have to shoot off to meet some other Dorset Dashers in town but I daresay they will be up for a drink or two in the sun (it *will *be nice weather). Looking forward to this!

Yeeeeep. My mates gonna do some research and find a goodie pub with outdoor/tramp beers option that we can head straight too : )

FridayMarch26th: Stick with the DD! The more the merrier and all that!

Pub wise there is the Head of the River, which has a big beer garden and is right in the centre, but a bit expensive. I don't know of many places in the centre with a big garden... but there is the option of heading along the river a little to one of the pubs on the tow path. If people fancy that option then it might be better to alter the route slightly to get onto the Thames at Sandford or Iffley and follow the tow path along. Would save us having to navigate the busier parts of the path closer to town. I don't really mind, just throwing some suggestions out there...

Yes it's a dangerous descent, but only if you don't know it's dangerous. I must have been down it on dozens of club runs - without incident so far - but then we do always warn newcomers beforehand.

It's perfectly possible to avoid the ascent and descent by going from Cookham to Marlow on the A4155 which is completely flat. Equally, the really horrible climb between Turville and Christmas Common can be avoided, but I think if someone has organised a ride and chosen a route it's up to his followers to follow and not quibble about a few hills.
