If you can get a bike on the cycle to work scheme anyway. I'm a temp and can't do it so think if the oppurtunity is there take it.
Sorry to hear about the theft. Touch wood I've not had anything taken, but I've got a shabby old road bike I take on nights out. -

Get a new wheelset, saddle + seatpost. It's not the end of the world, Mavic Aksiums (or similar) will cost around £160. Chances are if the bike is flashy enough to draw attention its not the best bike to leave outside a pub, whatever gearing is on it.
Use Cyclescheme to get a cheap(er) off-the-peg single speed for around £500-600 (less 40% of course) plus some extra security. See http://www.lfgss.com/thread9085.html for inspiration. Use this as a pub bike.

Replace the bits, and get yourself a beater. There'll be change from £200 for all of it, and if it gets pinched you're still alright.

Well I think I will replace the parts, but it seems to me it's going to cost atleast 250quid, which is how much I spent on the bike in total to start!
Obviously I am upgrading on wheel-wise... But is that about right? I am abit of a noob when it comes to this stuff...
Shimano RS30 Wheels - £140
[ITM Forged Lite Alu Carbon Seatpost](http://www.cyclingbargains.com/product_info.php/itm-forged-lite-alu-carbon-seatpost-p-630) £30
Shimano 105 Cassette 10-speed £37- - Cassette ratio 11-25*
And then a saddle...considering the San Marco Rolls Classic saddle
Is there anything I could skimp on from that??

These are better, as well as being a bit less flashy:

so are they specifically hand-made at that place?
Or the same as these?

So this has taken a slightly unexpected turn... I took the frame into a shop for a service and to replace the parts.
I just got a call and was quoted £470 for parts and labour. That seems a lot of money to be putting into a bike I only every spent £250 for in the first place (albeit second hand). No?
Now, I have the cycle to work scheme, and for £470, I could buy a new bike of the value of almost £800.That seems more sensible no?
I know that I like the current frame, but £470 for a pair of aksiums, cassette, tires, seat post and saddle doesn't seem value for money.

You can only turn a Felt F40 in to a 'fixie' if you magic gear it.
-

You should be able to easily replace all the lost parts for £150. £100 if you shop around and consider second hand.

go to a home mech who does used parts, if you dont know one I can give you a number.
I think the whole lot about £100?

Yeah that would be useful. can you PM me?
Going to be an awkward conversation with the bike shop... Hi, I'm too tight to pay 470. can i have my frame back please? kthnx.

I can sort you out with an ostentatious (but light) seat-seatpin combo, and I'm sure I have a spare rear wheel off a Giant OCR1 that has a 9 speed cassette.
The saddle's one of those cowprint ones that attach to the pin using a proprietary rail system. The pin's 27.2. Bought it by mistake on Wiggle a few years ago. Only tried it a few times, so it's as good as new.
I think a mate of mine has either the rear or the front wheel in his garage (I'll check which - the other's in my loft). If you're interested I can ping him a mail to see if he's around this w/e so I can pick it up.
Happy to let these go for a donation to the forum, if you think that's reasonable.

looks like the kindly person ChrisLhas sorted you out but I will pm you the number of the home mech, if nothing else - good for future use for parts and cheaper labour.

yeah that sounds wicked. Thanks very much. Let me know how you get on. And as you say, I'd be happy to donate to the forum...

the bike shop was actually really safe about it. What I was expecting to be an awkward conversation about how tight I was, wasn't awkward at all, and the guy acknowledged he was surprised at the price when he calculated the total.
I went to a pub quiz at the Duke of Wellington on Balls Pond Road, locking my bike up on BPRoad as the racks at the pub were full.
Having locked my bike up in London for 18 months without any issues, I'd got a little slack, and wasn't removing my front wheel. So I had locked the frame and the front wheel.
When I returned everything not on the D Lock was gone:
Fuckers. So now I dont know what to do. My bike was a Felt F40 road bike.
Should I just replace these parts? I needed a new wheel set anyway... If so, is anyone selling appropriate parts?
Or should I convert the frame to a fixie and buy a new roadbike on Cycle to work scheme?
Just worried a brand new bike would be even more likely to get nicked than my last one!
