I'm just gonna sack the job - all in the name of polo!

Pistaboy, looks like I'm gonna miss your TV show tonight - I'm playing polo!!!!!!!!
People are showing up at the court at about 18:00 so if people want to turn up earlier (straight from work) there normally a few people floating around. We're also playing till about 21:30 these days so come down after diner if you prefer to ride with a full belly!
But I'm up for Polo any night of the week, and time.

yeah, i agree with dan (probably expected) - firstly, our biggest turnouts have been at the newer time at the newer court, secondly the regulars (me, dan, ben, andy, fin, chris) seem to be always make it there anyway, and thirdly and most importantly, the old court is just way too busy and also significanltly less friendly than the new one.
dan's right though, i think a more flexible start/finish time would be best. It might take prior agreement from a few people posting on here at first, but it could develop to a 5pm/5.30 start and 9-10pm finish. that would be ace! as much as i like constantly playing, it would also be cool to stretch it out with a bit of relaxing/spectating/reffing/heckling to make it feel like a proper "polo community" ala them london types.
if people were up for it, i could ask for early-finishes on wednesday night and be a regular 5pm attendee.

pistaboy, are you coming to cambridge? we're departing digbeth 7.30 and my missus and probably dan's missus are coming (if you like our missus').

my point was in reference to your comment about wanting to grow the 'hardcore without fail contingent' and I replied from my own subjective experience of bham polo.
anyway with more flexible times, that should open it up for more people to play.

I'd be up for 5/5.30 start, i finish college at 5 and just wander round town till 6 cos it aint worth ridin home and back. I've really enjoyed the little bits of playing i've done so will be coming down regularly :)

.
Sounds good to me!

yeah, fair point - i wasn't trying to be arsey by the way. a once-weekly game is never going to be convenient for everyone. maybe an earlier start/later finish during summer is the order of the day.
my only concern is that 2-3 people show up early and have to play around doing silly games and such (although, saying that, i had fun tonight even with 4 people/3 mallets)
ARR - good having a(nother) new player. get yourself a swappable brake and then a nice low gear and you'll be much more 'in the game'

Did anyone show today?
I actually rolled along with a Dan lj's spare mallet too. But seem to have missed everybody.

me, blowieben, danlj and arr played from about 6.15-7.30, but ran out of energy like ben's boombox. one on one was actually really fun on that court.

Any girls playing polo yet? Want to come down but only played twice before and a bit wobbly! I've been giving out the flyers Fin had printed and stuck a few to nice looking bikes.
-
• #837
no girls yet, unfortunately.
that's the second time i've heard of these flyers - i need some for oyb, and i mentioned it to ade at sprockets too!

I'll drop some in tomorrow morning, want to look at some saddles anyway (PAYDAY!)... Fin's off doing training in Oxford but I've got loads in my bag.

I beg to differ. I've played polo with Nancy, 'Baldrick' whose name I can't remember, and Helen...

i stand corrected.

I beg to differ. You surely would have been sitting down to type that.

Any REGULAR girls? I live with Nancy so maybe I can coerce her into coming down again...
-
• #843
no regular girls, although the jury is out on dfp's gender at the moment.

i'm way more enthusiastic about promoting polo than playing it and would happily give out flyers. i'll probably see you in the streets some time this week...
-
• #849
just a heads up for this week's game - fin and chris won't be here again, so anyone who has one, bring their spare mallet(s). i've got mine strapped to my bike so ARR, you'll be able to play this time.
i'll be there from 6ish.

Thank Dan, but I wont be able to make it this week. I'm off to yorkshire.
to be honest I dont know if this is going to happen with the current timing of 6.30pm polo. for me (and this is just my experience), 6.30pm isn't quite straight after work and its not after dinner either, its right in between. i get home from work and i have to shoot out straight away if i'm playing polo. personally i'd much rather play til 10pm on a full stomach than 8.30 starving but i'm also aware not everyone who plays lives in south birmingham.
I think 7.30pm calthorpe sessions were more accessible and from what i remember there were more new faces checking it out. anyway i'm ill so i won't be attending tonight.
