I have to admit I had a fairly cynical attitude towards them a few years ago - but I practically never leave the house without mine now (it's SS - before you start throwing rotten tomatoes!).
I'm all for a bit of Phil Wood or Chris King etc fixed bling - but the Brompton is the only purchase that has actually made a significant difference to my cycling life...
