cheers was just wondering since the diameter is 26.4mm, aerobars are made at 26mm diameter. Would the .4mm make no difference then?

it'll be fine, it's a good idea to figure out if the stem length you have right now is the correct length for you (i.e. doesn't feel too far or too close to you to the point you feel your body weight on the handlebar).
if you find it too short/long, good time to get another stem that'll fit you better (and the bar).

thanks for your much appreciated . Its a fairly old bike but the stem is in the right place for me. Just wanted to know about the diameter for fitting the aero bars as not to have an accident with them slipping off/out of position
