Purchased a Manhattan Portage NY Bike messenger Large last week.
Loving it so far, managed to carry my clothes, laptop, lock, some small tools etc home for easter break. Very tough bag (so tough its hard to close), vinyl lined so good waterproofing and a massive main compartment. Definite value for money.
Only cons are the lack of anti sway strap, but i'm thinking of looking into to making a simple one.

Banjo Brothers commuter large:
Got my bag today which I bought from another forum member, couldn't find much online about it so thought I would post some pictures here so if other people are searching they will have more joy than I did.
Almost expanded to full size.
Swallowed my large Timbuk2 bag with ease,
This thing really is huge, very tough and well made. Has chest and waist straps to secure it well. I've also heard that these sit lower than normal rucksacks so you don't have really bad visibility issues when riding, I'll test this out tomorrow and report back.

http://www.michaellinnell.co.uk/inde...%20and%20Trays £31Yes, quite a few people. You may find some comments if you search Royal Mail, or Linnels, or maybe in the first few pages of this thread. And they ARE the same bags as Royal Mail, except without the RM logo.
They are tested more thoroughly than maybe any of the bags listed in the list on page one of this thread. Royal Mail is huge, and to get the contract to supply their bags, the companies that tendered for the contract, had to show how strong their bags were, under several conditions. Its really strong. But....not as comfortable as some more bespoke bags.

Special Edition bag now available from The Original Messenger Bag people - DeMartini Bags www.demartinibags.com
Good looking, and at a surprisingly low price. It's really worth a look.

Interesting - although bizarely no stabilsing strap on the DeMartini that I can see... hardly much use on a bike if thats the case?
-
• #817
It's a backpack...
-
• #818
Ah - sorry I was reffering to their messenger bags rather than the backpack :)

I'm replacing my Chrome Kremlin this summer. Finally tired of it being too small to easily fit everything I need (and also of humorists pressing the big red button when drunk at parties).
I've narrowed it down to a choice of two, and would appreciate any comments you guys & gals might have on either one...
Transient Bags - Large Messenger
or
Cocotte Equipment - Alfredo Pro Messenger BagThere's a positive comment about the Cocotte earlier in this thread, but I can't find anything much about the Transient...

I'm replacing my Chrome Kremlin this summer.
Just remembered... my old bag isn't a Kremlin, it's a Citizen (long dull story)... hence it's too small. I need a grown-up bag!

i got myself one of these about 6 months back in TKmaxx for £35
works well enough though the straps a little long, gonna modify that and add in one of them stabilizing strap things, other then its pretty sweet, and hard wherein, though not very good looking. still dose the job but I'd never use the combi lock nonsense.

Graeme, not wishing to be negative, but there is a reason why no bag in the list (on page 1) has a clippable/unclippable strap. Its because a strap that sewn directly onto the bag is stronger, and has no axis to twist through when its already on. Also, there is nothing to break through rough treatment.
I'll be interested to learn over time how this bag was for you. I'm sure it'll do the job, as long as its not treated like a real courier bag. I don't think the connection from strap to bag would be as long-lasting as just a strong strap, well sewn in. But its a bargain price, and you like it. Just be prepared to replace it after a year or so though.

well i've had the bag about 6 months so far going to uni and back and its still like new, but i don't carry to much, but now i'm out of uni i won't used it much anyway save to carry coats or something (and a lock ;) )
it'll hopefully do what i want, plus i liked the mesh idea for toughness
