Lorry driver alleged to have been drinking and phoning during crash
A lorry driver who killed a cyclist in a collision at the Oval junction in south London in June 2009 is to stand trial for causing death by dangerous driving.
Prosecutors claim CCTV shows the driver was using his mobile phone at the time of the crash and that he was also found to be under the influence of alcohol.
The cyclist, Catriona Patel, was described after the crash by her husband Mr Anish Patel as “a strong cyclist who would think nothing of a 100-mile ride up and down mountains – always with a smile.”
