  • @winston and RPM: er....obviously I'm not getting the right idea about ff spacing measurements here.

    back to Sheldon's site.

  • After consulting w/ Arup yesterday we think the condor ones I got are rebranded formulas but with solid flange walls. They look lovely. I'll be rolling on them this time next week. Thanks for all the replies. After looking at the receipt the pair actually came in £47.98 so as long as they don't explode in the next year seem pretty good value.

  • hmm. as an addendum to this, i just stripped one of the lockring threads on my goldtec condor hub - surprisingly easily, i might add.

  • Resurrection! I just bought my second set of these. Rode the first for six months and they've been great. Building a new bike now and for the price I didn't have to think twice. Surprised that with all the mentions System X and Formula get I never hear these get a look in.

  • Resurrection 2!

Greg@Condor has just given me 2 free extra cone lock nuts after the original one cracked after 3yrs use. Bearings still smooth. Bargain hub. Super service!!

  • had condor hubs on my fixed for 6 years...... no probs !!!!!!

  • Bump.

I'm sure I've read it on various threads, but I just can't find it buy searching.

Are Condor hubs (and BLB) just formula's without cutouts or are they actually a bit better?

  • Bump before I go and get some anyway....

...anyone from that long arsed thread about members daughters rim rigidity know the ans?

  • I ordered a Potenza from Condor a few weeks ago with the rebranded hubs. They said they were Sugino and they looked nothing like the formulas. Hope this helps slightly as I would like to get more info too,

  • I was in there yesterday, and the guy I was with - can't remember his name - was generally cagey about who actually makes their own-branded stuff...

  • Ordered a Potenza too, in the end, and it turns out the hubs are System Ex and rebranded. All I got about the own-brand wheels is 'they're made for us in Portugal'... Any thoughts?

And is the basic Sugino Uno crankset any good, or should I go Miche or even Sugino 75?

  • Sugino crankset is plenty enough for what you need, unless you can actually feel the slight difference in strength and weight between each crank.

and the hubs are decent, work exactly as you want it to, laced to an Open Pro and you'll get a pretty light wheelset.

  • Hey cheers for that. I clearly telegraphed my newbie status...

  • their own brand rims are excellent, btw. really light, really solid.

  • Again, good news. I was contemplating the Miches for a touch more cash..

  • Now I've bought a set, but not ridden them, my 2p:

    They're slightly heavier than on-one / formula.

    Different looking sealed bearings.

    Physicaly more refined, details etc.

    Slightly higher flanges.

So in conclusion not the same externaly as on-one/fomula and prob not the same internaly.

  • And they tend to be 32 holes I think.

  • You sure the Uno hubs are rebranded system-ex. They look nothing like them:

I thought they looked more like Miche Primato Hubs.

I actually went for the Condor uno rims instead of the Miche on my wheelset because I prefer deep-V's. The difference in price was only 3p. Hopefully I didn't make a poor decision. Their house brand stuff actually looked quite nice IMO, e.g. seatposts and brakes. I just went for the Sugino cranks as well. £50 extra cost didn't really justify the weight difference for commuting use for me.

  • They are rebranded System EX hubs, the cut-out on the System EX hubs give the appearance that the metal is thicker, but they're exactly the same, just without the cut-out.

I have both hubs, look exactly the same when I put them side by side.

  • I really don't think they are. I held a set of On-One hubs and the Condor next to each other and they are def externaly different.

The flanges are actualy higher... bc I measured them for the spoke length and the seals on the bearings are different.

A nice touch is they have the no. of holes lazer etched on them...accept the 36h says 32h.

  • That because the on-one hubs look different to the system ex/condor hubs;

  • Ah ok... I thought that formula, On-One, Sytem, etc were all the same. Cheers.

  • Well, the general view is that they all come from the same factory, just specced differently for each manufacturer.

  • Ed, any ideas how the Potenza frame compares to a Cinelli Gazetta? They look similar in geometry and tubing...

  • No idea, why don't you go to Condor and ask them if they have any Potenza frame to try out?
