Works for me. Yup.

we can share the drive - i.e. you drive when driving on the right is required.. ;) adam might drive too... he is away mountain biking, so we can make all the decisions.
i've been pricing cars.. but haven't found anything slap-your-face-cheap. any clues? -

Skycars: £100 for a Ford Fiesta
Skycars £145 for a Ford Focus Estate
Carhire300: £125 for a Chevrolet Matiz, or 207
Avis: £130 for a Nissan NoteAll based on a Saturday midday pick-up and early Monday morn drop off. Not as cheap as I thought...
£80 for a car of 3 people to cross on the ferry.
500 miles at 40MPG and £1.25 per litre = ~£75Total: £255 for 3 people in a car, £85 each.
(Cambridge luxury van including delivery/collection would be cheaper... come on Ray, drive us, heh.)
[edit] carrentals.co.uk is giving some good deals... between £70 and £90, depending on car size, pickup/dropoff from London City Airport. A Ford Focus Station Wagon estate may get 5 people and bikes in for £100, will push the mileage and ferry cost up a little though, maybe £55 each based on 5 sharing?

Jon, did you check if they have daily mileage limits? Worth being sure.
-
• #156
Unlimited mileage, yah, £9 for extra driver, not sure about the europe thing,
I imagine it'd be finefudging hell: £75 extra for London City Airport cars to allow Euro travel, balls, this looked good otherwise:Group F e.g. Ford Focus 1.6 Station wagon or similar
£103.55 GBPLocal Tax (TAX)
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Theft Protection (TP)
Vehicle Registration Fee (VRF)
Airport/city surcharge
Unlimited Mileage

5 people in the Ford Estate above would be:
£112 (car and second driver)
£75 (euro fee)
£47 (Seafrance crossing, much cheaper than P&O @ £91)
£75 (500 miles at 40MPG - which the estate supposedly is - and £1.25 per litre)= £309/5 = £61.80 each
If 5 bikes would fit, then that's not bad in my opinion. -
• #158
yeah, let's do it!
-
• #159
How much space is 500 litres? Looks like so:
5 bikes dismantled is going to be floor to ceiling full I reckon, anyone got a similar sized vehicle who can advise?
-
• #160
i have a golf, and I can get 3 bikes and 3 people in, estate with 5 should be fine, just don't take too many bags!
-
• #161
Sweet, let's proove Rik wrong and I'll book with a confirmed 5 peeps (£60 each)... which 5 want to go in the estate?
Originally it was Ray, Rob and I in a car, so we need two more? Sound fair?
I'll pick the car up at 12pm on Saturday, collect peeps/bikes at mine in East London for 1pm or so, then drop you back in East London late Sunday eve, good/bad times?
-
• #162
Jon, the chunnel times we're taking are still available, if you want to drive together - that way, if you're out of space for bikes in your car, you could sling stuff in mine.
The cost is £58
Sat 12.20 slot on the way over, Leaving London at 9am
Sun 22.20 on the way back (this one is full, but reserve the 22.40 and turn up early), should be home by midnight. -

We could do that, I'd have to go get the car at 7.30am or something... but it isn't affecting my quote. Where are you leaving from at 9am?
(Would be nice to have some more time in Frenchland.)
