This morning made my slightly tempted to pack away the bike for the summer.
Where do they come from?
Yep. For commuting anyway. I'm not going to moan because it is, after all, a fundamentally positive thing. It's just a whole different experience these days. It wasn't many years ago that i'd regularly be the only cyclists at the lights on my morning commute. At the back of a queue on Rosebury Ave this morning I counted well over 20 furiously jostling, swerving undertaking cyclists.
Now I usually hang back and watch the carnage whilst trying to think positive Amsterdammy-esque thoughts.
It can be trying though. I'm sure Oliver has said it before but the main problem is that the cyclist population explosion hasn't yet learned how to operate together. There's no universally understood ettiquette. I'm sure we'll get there though. After all, compared to the French and Italians our urban traffic is positively sedate. Hopefully our nascent cycling society will evolve quickly.
