Just bought a Colnago super...

  • So I bought this Colnago super off German Ebay.. Posted its costing 265 quid, maybe a bit on the pricey side? thought? but not too shabby IMO.

Not quite sure whats going on with the finish, sort of gun metal silver with blue bits and pitted chomred front lugs? anyway heres a link to the auction as i havent got the frame yet and its the easiest way of showing pictures.

does anyone know when the frame is from? due to the straight fork I guess 90s? what sort of groupset should I put on this? I know there are a world of options. I think 90s C record would be gorgeous but budget wise probably not an option. what alternatives do people suggest? shimano 600? dura ace? other more reasonable campag stuff? I want downtube shifters for my own silly reasons. I would love some suggestions as to what to kit this out with.

    Thanks!

EDIT - its columbus SL if that helps date it?

  • Have you paid already?.. the last time I bought from a german ebayer (always no-Paypal), it cost me around £12 just to transfer the money... oh, and 5 working days.
Of course, I bought a Campagnolo Seatpost for €7.

  • Haven't paid yet. I am awaiting a message about payment details.. I'm not that bothered if it takes a while to arrive, I won't have the money to complete it for a month or so anyway.

  • Cut all the braze ons off with a Dremel and turn it into a fixie

  • It comes with a c-record BB; do it justice.

    What is a fixie?

  • Sadly I have an orlowski track already so the dremel is staying firmly in its box ;)
C record is going to be gut wrenchingly expensive. does anyone have any for sale? I may have to painstakingly track down battered/cheap c record parts and somehow recondition them.. unless another gruppo is an option. I'm gonna have to shell out for Shamals too.. ARHGHG this is such a burden.

    .

    phew

  • Chorus? Thoughts? and can anyone make an estimation of age of this frame?

  • Straight forks and internal rear brake routing would suggest it's from the early 1990s.

Nice frame. That's a good price too.

  • 18 months

  • This Colnago is of late 1980s in my estimation with precisa forks of a later period. It is a Colnago Super SL which was the one down from the Conic SLX. The Colnago Master Piu was the top of the range with Gilco tubing. A nice 7-8 speed era Campgnolo groupset C-Record or Chorus or Athena would look nice on it.

Chorus? Thoughts? and can anyone make an estimation of age of this frame?

  • Current Projects thread please. Looking forward to seeing how this build gets on.
