I once sat in on a blind test with some studio engineers, with two identical pairs of monitors, one wired up with very, very expensive speaker cable and the other with ordinary mains cable (about 1 sq mm cross section as I remember). No-one could tell any difference at all.

Then they should work for the housing department of your local council, not in the studio if they can't tell the difference! Gold plated cables FTW.
It's all about the interference, but only people who own the whole discography of Yes can pick it up.
