  • So, after some discussion in another thread it's time for another Ladies ride!
This time it will be something to stretch our legs a little more than a pootle around West London!

    London to Brighton.
Around 50 miles, two big hills - some smaller ones - nothing too scary -possible either fixed or geared.
    Route: Gmap ped http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3798799
    GPSies : [ame]http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=ooxtywxweqmcelig[/ame
    %5B%2Fame]
    Turn guide attached.

Meet at Clapham Common at 7.45am for an 8am set off - should get us in Brighton by lunchtime for chips and beer on the beach. Those of us with stronger legs can ride back, the rest (including me) can get the train home.

This will be an inclusive ride, that means we will go as fast as the slowest person, so we all stay together and no-one gets left behind. This will totally be in the spirit of the ladies ride's I have organised in the past, just longer. If you want to ride it fixed that's fine, if you want to ride gears that's also fine!

Halfway stop scheduled for Turners Hill, This weekend looks like a scorcher so a few reminders.

    1. Bring Plenty of Water
    2. Bring a spare tube
    3. Bring/Wear Sunscreen
    4. Bring some food/snacks
    5. Check your brakes and pump up your tyres before you come.

Please put my number in your phone if you're coming in case or emergencies etc

Navigation is not my strong point, so even though I will have a GPS and will check the route out, I would appreciate any regular Brighton riders stepping in to navigate.

I should have got some fitness back by then after being broken for the last 6 weeks... looking forward to it :)

  • I'm in still (having a panic attack thinking about this)! OK date is in my phone and my Gmail calendar.

The only 'hills' I've done are Balham Hill and Cedars Road. Anything higher on the L2B and I'll need either towing, a new set of lungs/legs or resusitation.

  • ha! i felt like i needed a tow up balham hill this morning, two weeks off the bike and this volcano flu has fucked my aerobic capacity.

honestly, you'll be fine - some of us will be walking the big hills, and some of the fixed people may even be walking down them as well.

  • Hi Clefty. I am reassured............ almost :-)

  • I'm going to lurk as well. But most likely in. And I have some good routes.

  • spoke card*?

*just kidding, this would be an awful spoke card

  • Awful or brilliant. I'm tempted either way.

Cafewanda - more than happy to walk them with you if necessary! - the only hills I can remember going up are Vanbrugh and Crooms Hill in Greenwich. 3 years ago. And without a bike.(But with a cello in a flight case. Should have attached a motor to it)

Is that Dov on the left?

Thanks for the offer Charlotte83. Let's see what happens on the day. Hopefully I'll surprise myself (please God).

  • Charlotte if you bring the cello up Ditchling I'll be more than impressed!

  • haha! no deal, Clefty.
Although it does have wheels - I could tie it to the pannier rack and drag it behind. Could fill it with drinks and snacks...

  • Oh bugger - I will still be in Devon, so I'm out. Mind you, if Clefty's navigation is really as bad as mine & you guys find yourselves near Barnstaple - then do pop in for tea . . .

    Seriously - disappointed.

Might anyone be up for a very short camping trip at any time? Someone was mentioning that there was a campsite on an island in the Thames . . . I don't have any equipment - but it would be a darn good excuse to buy some. Maybe if anyone knows someone w/ a large field a bit out of town where we could have a fire that would be good. I am sooooo keen to buy a small piece of woodland for just such an excursion, but funds won't permit right now.

  • Nhatt and I have been discussing this as well - definitely up for for some overnight camping.

  • clashes with the exmouth exodus on the saturday night unfortunately, but I'll keep an eye on this in case plans change.

  • This is so sexist!

  • go and organise a boys ride if it makes you feel better..

  • Nhatt and I have been discussing this as well - definitely up for for some overnight camping.

yep, would defo be keen for some overnighters - doing a cycle trip this summer so need to get in as many test-runs on the gear as possible!

  • Still in - ta for a date I can do!
Will be geared, & a hill struggler. Will be heading back for Circle ride that night.
    Looking forward to it!

  • fashion tip, G? Sorry, don't do pink - bit too Molly Ringwald on me.
    On second thoughts...
