I think the soil in my beds is fucked, too many years of artichokes and not a lot else in them seems to be sapping and wilting any new plants as soon as I put them in. I got given some top soil last week, so might start doing tubs to grow some proper veg next week. The only saving grace to a late season.

Your soild should not be "fucked" if it has had plants growing in it, like some healthy artichokes for example. Soil loses nutrients and becomes acidified if it is left bare, with nothing on it.

If your having persistent problems growing stuff it may be worth doing some soil tests.

But if this stuff has failed recently, it couldve just been the weather. Theres been fairly chilly/windy weather & night frosts recently.
