... among others, but there seem to be so many new bike shops opening at the moment that I thought a thread specifically on new openings might be in order. I'm talking about independent shops run by dedicated people who will be putting a lot into them--the big chains don't need the same level of support from us.

I love that so many people are taking the plunge into the trade and that bike shop desert after bike shop desert is getting an oasis. Long may they all thrive!

This is not meant to be a list thread--just post about new shops that you've found and rave about how great they are if applicable. GA2G's list and mattty's map can of course still be updated with them.

So, here's the most recent opening that I've heard of:

Micycle: On Barnsbury Street, at the Liverpool Road end. New bikes, repairs, coffees, with a nice garden out the back, and a special bike wash. They seem to have a membership/registration system on their web-site which I haven't taken advantage of but which seems to give you discounts on their services--info on the front page.

I went to Push Cycles for the first time the other day, they've only been open 5 months. Really friendly and really helpful, I bought the Belk bag I wanted there, from now on it will be my LBS, even though it's not entirely local for me.

+1 on PUSH. great shop.

This looks sweet. They offer free use of tools too which is a welcome change from the grumpy notices posted on a few bike shop doors. Have pressed my face up against the window a few times but not actually seen it open yet. Has the added excitement (for me) of being 30 seconds from my flat. In fact, my missus was living in the flat above it when I met her. Ahhh memories.

Kind of wish it was open later though. Turned up looking forward to a post-work coffee and bike nerd-out last week to find it all shut up well before 6pm while the sun was still out and commuters were streaming past on Liverpool road... would have thought as shop/cafe they'd do better staying open later to catch the post work rush too.

Just a thought.

Good to see a lot workshops (such as the cafes) who are not retailers of complete bicycles. Seems like the chains have such a stranglehold on the market sewn up with the big manufacturers.

Has anyone been to the Rapha Café yet? There doesn't seem to be any mention of it on here (after a cursory glance of UTFS)...

I popped into the Rapha shop on Friday. I can vouch for Nude Coffee, they do really great fancy coffee (esp flat whites if they are anything like their bricklane sister). Not sure about the actual store though. I don't really know what the shop actually offers. Two floors, a coffee shop, eight bikes (not for sale) and couple of tshirts and some caps and that's it. It's mostly empty with inspirational cycling quotes on the walls. I mean, I can overpay for Rapha at Condor 20 yards away thanks.

Yes, I looked at the Rapha web-site and realised that it's not really a bike shop, though I think that creating that kind of place for cycling is great, too.

I obviously had PUSH on the radar and even had them included in a draft of the OP, but then I realised that they'd been open for quite a while, were in GA2G's list, etc., so I took them out again, but lovely shop and highly recommended.

We're spoiled for choice now in leafy Islington. Push is great of course - my LBS.

Had a look in at Micycle today. Very friendly proprietor with lots of good ideas to do something a bit different as a bike shop. Coffee and a garden, lots of cycle parking. Training to encourage new riders to maintain their bikes properly, and free use of tools. They sell Bianchi, Kona and Dahon folders. Recommended.
