No, I haven't heard anything, and I can't recall a fatality there, either. We don't hear about all of them, though. Could it have been May 8th in another year, perhaps long ago?

I'm fairly certain the marking said 2010, though I suppose it's conceivable that just refers to when it was put there (you can still faintly smell paint).

Well, it would of course be perfectly horrible if someone had been killed there yesterday--perhaps the date refers to the time the ghost bike was put up, although I'd find that slightly less important than the time of the killing.

There are now flowers too. How the hell could this be unreported?

Baffles me--but reporting or not, we still don't know what happened via other sources, do we?

Google doesn't throw up anything.

I've tried, too--mysterious.

Tried too... maybe a posthumous memorial?

I have just heard back from the Met Police, they don't know of any cycling fatalities in London over the weekend. If it is an memorial to a previous death it much have been a long time ago. The Tower Hamlets Wheelers group don't know anything about it either.

It could possibly be a mock-up for a photo-shoot/filming that someone's just left there without being bothered to clear it away.

I'm curious about this too.
There were flowers with a personal handwritten note yesterday, so I'd be surprised if it was leftover from filming or a photoshoot. I'm pretty sure it was dated 8 May 2010. I wondered if it was perhaps a memorial to a cyclist who had died, rather than to one who had been killed on the road.

That thought had crossed my mind too. Seems the only obvious answer?

It would be spectacularly bad taste to leave this lying around after a shoot.

maybe ask in nearby businesses?

closest one i know of is Chrystelle Brown. but that was 2009.
there is nothing in the local press. local business is a good idea
A ghost bike has appeared on Sidney Street E1, chained to the railings of Sidney Square. The saddle is marked "Andrew" and a date of 8th of May (yesterday). I'm unable to find any mention of this in the news sources or on here - does anyone know of a fatal accident? It'd be far from out of the question there.
In the meantime, I'm really, really hoping it's a mistake or a desperately poor joke :-(
