• #1631
Sounds like Mirco, aka claus.
-
• #1632
Yeah that was Mirco, he was pretty amused/confused by the whole thing. His colnago is quite special.

'What does he go on about Tuesday? It's bloody Thursday, I just got dropped by Sean's group and this motorcyclist keeps on with his gibberish'
Took me at least another two laps settle on the idea it was some TRNC nutter on a motorbike. Next time you better have namecards with you. -

Is that the main man himself majorly leading the break?
-
• #1636
it certainly is and Kenny van Hummel the new TRNC backstop
-
• #1637
Aha - it all becomes clear. Name tags next time, then I can tow you back up to the group ;)

Just did reccy #1 of the next ride. For some reason unbeknownst to me, I ended up riding it all in 53x18, and didn't have to walk up any climbs; so it'll be fine for the fixed medium gear crew.
Road surfaces aren't bad, but you're going to have to be prepared (as ever) for the odd inconveniently placed hole/drain cover, and some twisty bits with tight and blind corners - although this should be less of an issue at night, with oncoming headlights to warn us.
There are probably 2 or 3 short sections requiring single file - mainly because I know how drivers generally perceive ownership of the road at these points. No big deal.
29 miles in 1h30 today, but it'll be an enjoyable 2h to 2h30 for a larger group. It's quite exposed, so I'm hoping for less blustery conditions than today.
More details to follow next week…

Some of it is fantastically traffic free. Or at least it was between 11.30am and 1pm today.

new ride sounds excellent
i feel like contesting the fine
plod said that she had no discretion and if she saw someone on the pavement she had to fine them
however she had seen des (balmain) do the same
so she was either fucking useless or a liar
will that work?

i was going to contest a 30 pound rlj fine once but then changed my mind as it would cost more than 30 quid of tax payers money fund the whole court procedure and take cops off the street. i was guilty so i sucked it up and swallowed my pride

+1 - if you're guilty, eat it.

This cop don't sound like she's much cop, especially if she'd been watching you for any time before you got on your bike, taking her off the street is probably no bad thing.
On what grounds you going to appeal? It's clear that at that hour and in that place being on a bike wasn't going to cause any harm to anyone, on the other hand you were on your bike on the pavement and rules is rules.

Tim (anyone), can you confirm that the Bath ride will be out of the 2 week cycle, on the 1st June? I need to get booking the holiday / recovery day off work.
Cheers.

Dash dot, dot dot, dash dot dash dot, dot/ dot dash dash dash dash
Ahhh I don't know, I'm losing it myself. Speaking of which, I managed to make an appalling cunt of myself again this evening. I pulled alongside the charming fella that rides TNRC on a beautiful colnago with delta brakes in regents park and completely forgot his name. I compounded my error by being on my motorbike at the time which rendered all but the most basic sign type communication impossible. After waving in a, frankly, limp wristed fashion, attempting to air draw TNRC, I remembered I have JUNG in large silver letters on the back of my leathers, which I hoped would prompt a moment of clarity, however, in the excitement, I forgot I was also wearing a hooded top obscuring the legend. In the end I had to ride off, leaving him nonplussed and me in deep shame.
DOH.
Still bicycle pain at lunchtime and motorcycle mayhem in the evening almost makes going to work worthwhile.
