  • Sick of haing to do everything upside down. Stripping and rebuilding my road bike, wondering if anyone has a stand they bought and done need/ is replacing an old stand they want to get rid of.

Let me know, am in Camden but can travel most places.

    • Jim
  • there was one for £15 pounds in a thread in the mechanics and fixing section a week or so back, will try and dig it out

  • cheap! anyone used one?

  • it was like working on a bike on the deck of a ship mid storm. spent more time lying down than stood up.

  • useful for a number of things- setting indexing, fitting a new chain, etc but I was hoping to see the workshop type of stand

Hooking the saddle in the garden shed cross strut has its limitations....

and I NEVER turn the bike upside down to work on it- end result is a knackered saddle and brake levers or stem and bars

Chain Reaction or Wiggle may be good for new stands, although a second hand one would be handy

I use a similar one to the link one very frequently, really useful

  • wow, that is really cheap. Yeah, if anyone can give a recommendation I'm getting one.

  • Sounds like a thumbs down from toppers.

  • my reccommendation is to buy the park stand from ribble. you will never regret it. unless you should be spending the cash on life saving drugs.

  • wow, that is really cheap. Yeah, if anyone can give a recommendation I'm getting one.

It's really cheap because it's just a prop for the back wheel.

    Bike Stand

    Bike Prop

  • ha! that would have been disappointing when received.

  • they will clamp up on just about frame you put in it. the clamp on this stand is infinitely adjustable up to a diameter of about 8inches. if you go into just about any bike shop their workshop will be using a variation of this stand and for the home meachanic they are excellent. their ony draw back is theay are a bit bulky to store. but still not the end ot the world. i have used a number of stands over the past 15 years and nothing comes close to a park.

  • oh and theyre reasonably heavy, which in use is ace, to move about is a pain.

  • i've got an old tackx stand, that i hardly ever use. Mmm, do i need it? i can recommend though.

  • I got a park one like this. It's fairly good, but this design of stand is flawed if ur ever going to do cankset/BB work.

    U want one like this:

give it to me. you don't even like bikes anymore. I'll give you a shoe rack.

  • I have a nice Cinelli one, and I'm about to move. Pm for you.

  • that tacx stand is ok i just alwys found them a bit top heavy, and if youre using them for a number of different bikes they are a pain in the arse to keep adjusting. plus theyre uselss for adjusting the headset/front brake cause you have to take the wheel out to hold the bike. not shit, just flawed imo.

  • at the risk of asking a stupid question, what is so good about that park tools one? (presumably it clamps a wide variety of bikes with ease and stands up without wobbling)

is there anything wrong with it?

i'm sorely tempted to get the credit card out (yet again)...

Ok - I didn't click the link... I have that park one.

Don't get me wrong, it is good. Strong, adustable, well made.

But all of those stands suffer from the fact that when u put any real force on the BB area the stand moves. U could make it work by installing wheels, putting in a long seat post and using the ground for stability.

But after seeing retro de corsa's which is of similar desgin to the table style I posted above is just a better design. If I did it again I'd def spend the little extra on that design.

Also buyin 2nd hand is hard as they all hold their value.

i have the A shape heavy one that clamps on bb

  • at the end of the day either are better than that shitty prop stand and you would be happy with either. me and hugo just differ on which is best. (hugo's wrong by the way):-)

  • give it to me. you don't even like bikes anymore. I'll give you a shoe rack.

why not, you want my truing stand, wall rack and tools as well?!

  • Ha ha... I'm willing to accept there maybe user error, but have u used it to get stiff BBs out successfully, and if so how?

  • why not, you want my truing stand, wall rack and tools as well?!

Yup, sounds good. Bring it all to the pub tonight? ;)

(what wall rack do you have, btw? Really need to figure out a storage solution in our flat).
