What Ed said. And the others--you should be ashamed of yourselves. That cardboard is of course the headset shim. Without it, you won't be able to trackstand. ;)

So I've got the bike pieced together and have been just up and down the road as I haven't got lights yet.
Gotta say its a lot of fun and riding fixed didn't seem as alien as I thought it might. Bought a little Lezyne pump from cycle surgery too.Overall I'm liking the bike. Might have to swap out the green rims for black at some point though!

You can get some cheap light kits from Wiggle or Chain Reaction Cycles, it's vital to have them as you're literally invisible when you're riding in the evening.

I wish everyone was this nice to me when I asked my retarded questions. Everyone must be very relaxed today, maybe its the sunshine
Glad you like the bike hamish but gotta echo what ed said, take it down the LBS they will tighten bits you never thought you had, oo-eer!
Also +10000 about the lights, dont ride in the dark without them or I will run you over on purpose

Yeah I'm gonna head down the local on saturday. Get the brakes properly sorted, for piece of mind if anything. I'm sticking with the back brake too for now just till I can build up some confidence.
Birthday this month so think I'll be getting lights pretty soon.Back to the bike, I think all in all the regular plug is probably the one to have as the freestyler is a little loud, but I wasn't too keen on the bull horns and I managed to get the freestyler brand new for £100 less than a new plug and with free p+p, although the first bike got lost in the post!

I was going to order a charge on over the interweb. Being 6'2"+ I thought it'd be a no brainer to order a large... However, I found a bike shop that sells them here (Ireland) & sat on a medium to try it out & it felt astonishingly good. The bike shop in question hasn't added a paddy tax, so I'll get it there and get a proper fitting while I'm at it...

Hey all! I'm looking to buy something 2nd hand and have found loads of medium plugs but no large. I'm 6'5 so presumably buying a large is a no-brainer right?!
Feel free to PM me if anyone's selling anything that could suit too! I'll start a separate thread in due course, though at the moment I'm still in the nursery and unable!

I'm 6'3" and have been riding a medium for a while now, fits perfect, although I have now replaced the stem for a shorter one and the bars for drops.

I'm 6'2 and tried my house mates medium and it felt way to small, especially when on the bottom of the drops.

I'm from an mob background & haven't had this style of bike before. Am concerned about getting the right size as I took some poor advice before & bought a fame that was too small. I can see the value in being able to get a full leg extension...

Alright folks... having had two bikes stolen in the last 4 months I'm (a) heartbroken (b) fuming (c) in need of a new bike on a limited budget. I haven't ridden single speed since my bmx days of old, and fancied getting back on the horse.
I really need to keep the budget under £350 if poss, especially since I need to allow for wages for an armed guard to wait with my bike whenever I leave it anywhere longer than 5 mins (seemingly the only way to stop the thieving b*stards in London town). I saw these two deals for a '09 Charge Freestyler and standard Plug from Triton Cycles and thought £360 and £340 respectively wasn't too bad:
Freestyler: http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m14b83s180p3718
Plug: http://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m14b83s180p2557I'm really not bothered by the colour as I can always do something about that if budget allows in the future... it's more a case of how much bang I'm getting for my buck. I'll be using it for my 4 mile each way commute and generally mooching around town. Opinion seems to be extremely divided on these bikes, but at those prices do people think it's worth it?? For the budget, I guess my other options would be Fuji Track, Mongoose Maurice, SE Draft Lite etc?
I love the idea of building up my own bike as a few people have recommended for those on a budget, but I'm desperate to get back on the road and not sure I have the patience or knowledge to source all the parts needed... maybe one for the future. Anyway... all thoughts very much appreciated!

I didn't like the wheel set on the bog standard plug so went with the freestyler. Got mine in the galvanised look as a pose to the pinky colour (which isn't too bad). It meant I got black rims instead of those gawdy green ones.
Rides nicely. Bit heavy but not as bad as some make out IMHO. I managed to pop a rear spoke the other week after 6 months of riding (but I'm a fat bastard).
Others may recommend something different for the money, but I think £360 isn't a bad price (considering I paid £530 for a 2010 model).

i was thinking the same when i bought me new bike...but i would recommend keeping your eyes peeled in the classified section of the forum and seeing what people have for sale...you could find something way better looking and better second hand for that amount...i had a real nice bike for 400 off the forum...
plus...they only have a small plug left (54cm) so unless your small you will be going with the freestyle

Cheers CasaSteve & Nyquil... much appreciated! I'll keep my eyes peeled in the forum classifieds before taking the leap. One thing I know for certain, I won't be trawling through Gumtree for bargains any more.. my Charge Mixer was swiped last week and I've seen two very suspect Mixers on there since then. Contacted Police and Gumtree (and tried to contact the seller each time) and nothings come of it. It pains me to see so many obviously stolen bikes on there, and the thought of riding round on someone's stolen pride and joy just doesn't sit well with me.

i agree mate..that gumtree is awful. good luck with your hunting

Hiiiiiiii
I'm fully aware that someone, somewhere on this forum has asked this, but. Can someone tell me the clearance on the back end of a Charge Plug frame please? What's the widest tyres that could go on one?
Sorry for my hipsterish subject, thanks for any responses.
Hamish, I think it's worth popping down to your local bike shop and ask them to check the bike to see if your handiwork is sound, worth doing before you go riding frankly.
another thing to invest in - track pump, and you don't need to splash out for an expensive one, just one that you can pump to 100psi easily.
