good on you. now wait for the responses i guess...
would you consider selling the brake?
Of course if the main bits go. I have the pair.

mate, unless you're riding round a velodome, a lockring is essential nonetheless and you don't need to learn how to 'skid' just to ride a fixed wheel bicycles,
a lockring is essential because you'll end up using your legs to slow down the wheel, there will be moment when you're going fast downhill and a slight resistance of the pedals would be enough to undo the cog.
172mm on a road bike BB height is a bit risky since you can't stop pedalling around a corner and consquencely will have a pedal strike, and off you pop.
put a lockring on, ride it properly, and then decided whether you want to sell it or not.

I know what a lock ring is for.
I hoped to fit a BB lockring (obviously not a true lock ring).
Can't fit a lock ring on non track hub.
I have tried to pedal brake as hard as I could, but couldn't budge it, I was fairly surprised by this I have to say.
I can't, don't want to or see the point in skid braking, my point was that I would be more concerned of the lack of lock ring if I did do "skidding"
I have a brake too, infact there are 2 in the sale.
As I said, if I were to keep it I'd go SS.mate, unless you're riding round a velodome, a lockring is essential nonetheless and you don't need to learn how to 'skid' just to ride a fixed wheel bicycles,

no need to feel offended or argue, but trust those who ride fixed full time, the cog WILL pop off eventually. and reconstructive surgery to the face WILL need to be performed. be careful out there!

Richard,
Thanks for your response via, PM, but feel free to contact Markrjohnson/other interested parties as I can't afford it right now.
Many thanks and well done for putting up with the 'traditional forum greeting'.

I'm not saying you NEED to skid, resisting the pedal doesn't mean you need to 'lock' the wheel.
I rarely ever skid on my fixed wheel bicycle, there's no need to, the only time I did is when I made a mistake and misjudge the amount of resistance to the pedals.

I was under the impression this was a "for sale" thread not "for opinions" thread.
You're new here, aren't you? This is friendly. James has hardly offered to do any raping at all.

In all fairness, I'm surprised at the lack of gang banging happening here in this topic.

Ed, you have just stumbled upon the problem with the youth today.
Well said.

this bike is a bodge... you have probably by now realised we're a tough crowd, and a lot of us are self confessed wankers (not me obviously ;)
you should really just split it and sell it as a ti geared frameset - it's not a 'fixie' but a bodged waste of a seemingly good (albeit poorly named) ti road frame, trying to cash in on the 'fixie' trend here is unlikely to go down well
that's my two penneth!
p.s this bike would suit someone about 5 inches shorter than yourself

Truly the shark has been jumped.
Fact. -

Eek! Didn't look at the close up.
^There is no thread for a lockring. look in the detailed picture of the hub...that is a normal road hub, is not even for single speed.
I wouldn't push your luck on that one - last time I checked 'risk' was the expected value of a future event - the fact it hasn't happened yet is exactly what makes it risky. So I wouldn't say calling it risky is silly.
Might be interested in the cog if you split.
Not ideal, for sure, but "risky"... not so far after a couple of 20mile shakedown runs.

Pm'd regarding frame

• #44
and I'd take the full chainset, maybe the stem too
Ithink I'll just a make my sh1te Apollo MTB into a "Fixie"- a hammer should do it nicely......

• #45
this thread makes me sad
-
• #46
i think people have said about splitting this bike because of the decent components but slight difference of opinion on the safety/practicality they are put together.
i think essentially people are trying to be constructive here, with a bit of friendly ribbing/advice/knowledge added.

This bike will split itself.

Might be interested in the cog if you split.
Sure, if I can get the damm thing off! :-)
My friends on this thread seem to think its going to drop off at any moment, but its proved pretty damm stubborn.
Maybe I don't know my own strength, it was a pretty steep hill I rode up to wind it on.....now, if I could only ride up it backwards.....
-
• #49
ok we'll watch you ride backwards up the hill ! I need some fun in my life.... :-)))
