He was convicted of murder. Life imprisonment and only able to be considered for parole after 13 years. A long sentence for murder where the average release date on licence is usually around 7 years.
He was driving uninsured and without a licence and so the comments in this article suggesting that people with ASBOs shouldn't be allowed to drive, would not have helped in this case. Also worth noting that, contrary to the impression given in earlier reports, he took a long time before he turned himself in.
